Job description- Deputy Manager
Location - A Step Up Nursery!, Kilkeel, Co Down
The Deputy Manager's main role is to support the Manager in all aspects of Nursery/afterschool matters. This role is for 30 hours a week but there are more hours available if you wanted. They must be conversant with all Policies and Procedures, the Job Description of the Manager and all other staff, and must be able to manage the nursery /afterschool is the absence of the Manager. They must work as part of the Staff Team and liaise between the Staff and the Manager.
The Deputy must work with the Manager to ensure the nursery complies with the Early Years Framework. They must ensure good practice as set out in the EY Practice Guidance and they must ensure compliance with all relevant statutory regulations, for example, Health and Safety Law and Employment Law. When deputising, the Deputy Manager must execute the responsibilities of a Nursery /afterschool Manager according to all lawful and ethical standards. The Manager has responsibility for the nursery, including out-of-hours, if necessary.
The Deputy must ensure that a manager or Deputy is present in the nursery at all times during opening hours. The Manager and Deputy must cover each other’s duties should either of them be absent. Due to the seniority of the role, it is expected that the Deputy will have high level of attendance.
At all times the Deputy Manager must display a high level of enthusiasm, loyalty and motivation and must adhere to the correct policies and ethos of the nursery/afterschool. They must promote equal opportunities for all. They must ensure their appearance is neat and tidy at all times, is appropriate for their status and that they abide by the correct dress code. They must be a role model of good practice.
The Deputy Manager must at all times ensure the safety, care, welfare and happiness of the children in the Nursery/afterschool. They must ensure all children have access to resources, equipment, activities and learning opportunities to reach their full development and potential. The Deputy Manager must be aware any children in their care with special needs (including special educational needs and disabilities) and is proactive in ensuring appropriate action is taken to promote the welfare and development of those children within the nursery.
