Please note school is currently working without internet and are awaiting a prompt fix from engineers. We are aware some messages on Arbor have been unsuccessful therefore please see below for information regarding partial school closure on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th.
Due to unprecedented weather conditions forecast for this week and the Government Met Office and UK Health Security Agency red warnings, Heronswood Primary and Pre-School will close at 12.30pm on Wednesday 24th June and Thursday 25th June. Our wraparound after school care will not be open on these days and refunds will be made accordingly. Football after school club is also cancelled.
This decision has not been taken lightly and having reviewed our robust and site-specific risk assessment, along with discussion with the Trust Executive, we have concluded that we cannot keep school within reasonable temperature limits during the hottest parts of these days.
On both days children will receive their usual hot dinner, or packed lunch, and will then be dismissed from their usual gates. Year 5 and 6 parents will be sent out a Microsoft forms to complete to confirm whether their child will be collected or can walk. No child will be able to walk without the completion of this form.
As today's temperature is also very high, we have put the following contingencies in place:
All children will be allowed outside for a short period in a shady space for morning break - this may not be at their usual time
Children will not be allowed outside during the lunch period
We are encouraging children to keep well hydrated throughout the day
We have ordered (and received) more fans
Whilst we understand that this will be inconvenient to many of our families, our priority is the health and safety of pupils and staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
