Heathfield the Penguin has really missed everyone this summer...

So it was lovely to see everyone back on site today!

Our pupils have settled into their new classes, got to grips with new timetables and routines, caught up with friends and enjoyed a brilliant welcome-back assembly to officially get the new academic year underway.

The school has been buzzing with energy all day, with plenty of excitement about the year ahead and lots of new opportunities already on the horizon.

And there have been plenty of changes around the site over the summer too! New toilets, our new Outdoor Gym Equipment almost ready to go, new Art rooms and plenty of other improvements for our pupils to discover.

A brilliant start to the new academic year. Welcome back, everyone — we’re looking forward to an exciting year of Enrich, Challenge and Prepare.

Have you had a fun summer?

We hope so! Our staff have certainly made the most of theirs, with something for everyone’s tastes: from cookery courses in Greece to seeing Take That in Dublin; from watching Jason in High School Musical to taking part in an open-water swimming event; and from watching the Commonwealth Netball Final to motorbiking through the Alps. And that’s just a small selection of what they’ve been up to!

Can you guess which member of staff took each photo?

But now the classrooms are ready, the final planning is taking place and our staff are back on site preparing for the return of our pupils tomorrow.

We hope everyone has had a fantastic summer and enjoyed some time to relax, have fun and make some memories. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to Heathfield Knoll tomorrow for another exciting year.

The summer is over. Let’s get started!

ASA Spotlight: Jujutsu and Tag Rugby

Our new ASA programme is now open for bookings, with activities beginning from Monday 7 September. There is still time to get involved and choose from the fantastic range of opportunities on offer.

This week we are highlighting two of our externally run activities, offering very different ways for pupils to get active, learn new skills and have fun.

Jujutsu has been a firm favourite at Heathfield Knoll for many years, with a fantastic group of pupils returning year after year to develop their skills, confidence and discipline.

Joining our programme this year is Tag Rugby, delivered by our new partners at Elevate Performance Academy. A brilliant, energetic activity for our Junior pupils, it is a great way to get active, develop teamwork and enjoy learning a new sport in a fun and supportive environment.

With plenty of other activities available across the week, take a look at the full programme and sign up on SchoolBase before activities begin on Monday 7 September.

Learning Begins Outdoors

There is something special about seeing our youngest children explore the woods.

For pre-school aged children, outdoor learning provides endless opportunities to develop confidence, coordination, communication and independence, while encouraging curiosity and a natural love of exploration.

A woodland is full of things to discover: sticks to collect, leaves to investigate, trees to climb around, muddy puddles to jump in and endless opportunities for imaginative play. These simple experiences help children learn to assess risk, solve problems and work together, often without even realising they are learning.

At Heathfield Knoll, our wonderful wooded site gives our youngest pupils the space to explore, get messy, ask questions and have fun outdoors every day.

Want to see it for yourself? Come and explore our Nursery and beautiful woodland site at our Open Day on Saturday 12 September, 10am–12pm.

Our New ASA Programme is LIVE!

We launched our exciting new After School Activities programme for 2026–27 back in July, and bookings officially opened on SchoolBase yesterday.

There is a huge range of activities on offer this year, with something for everyone. Alongside popular favourites, we have an enhanced focus on Netball and Football, with dedicated match opportunities and fixtures planned for pupils who take part.

There is plenty more to choose from too, including The School Production, Jujutsu, FootGolf, Elevate Rugby sessions, Bebras, Coding, Music Tech and our new Korean Language Club, to name just a few.

Activities begin in the first full week of term, from Monday 7 September, so now is the perfect time to look through the programme and plan ahead.

Head to SchoolBase to explore the full programme and book your child's places. With so much on offer, we can't wait to see our pupils getting stuck in.

Heathfield Knoll School celebrates strong GCSE and BTEC results

Heathfield Knoll School is pleased to share that the class of 2026 achieved very pleasing results in GCSE and BTEC. 85% of all GCSE grades awarded were grades 9 to 4, and a third of all grades achieved were awarded at grades 7 to 9. Including BTECs, pupils on average achieved one grade higher than their national baseline prediction.

Commenting on the results, headteacher Lawrence Collins said: “We are absolutely delighted to celebrate the achievements of our Year 11s. These results reflect the pupils’ hard work and the support of their staff and families. We are incredibly proud of every pupil and wish them every success as they take their next steps.”

The School extends its congratulations and best wishes to all those collecting results today.

The Great Outdoors is a Classroom Too

The summer holidays are a great opportunity to slow down a little. Not every day needs to be filled with activities, plans and places to be.

Sometimes, giving children the freedom to head outside, explore and work out what to do for themselves can be just as valuable.

Give children space outdoors and they will naturally explore, investigate, create, take risks, solve problems and work things out. A stick becomes a fishing rod, a fallen branch becomes part of a den and a patch of woodland becomes an entire world to explore.

This is one of the reasons outdoor learning is such an important part of life at Heathfield Knoll. Our HK Outdoor Learning Awards, running from Reception through to Year 4, encourage pupils to explore our wonderful grounds, develop practical skills and build confidence, resilience and perseverance along the way.

So, as the summer holidays begin to wind down, don't worry too much about filling every minute.

Sometimes, all children really need is a little space.

And they might just be about to learn something

“I am incredibly proud of our Sixth Form students, and it is wonderful to celebrate their success. These results reflect their hard work and the tailored support provided by our staff. We wish them every success as they move on to their next steps.”

The school congratulates all students collecting their results today and wishes them the very best as they progress to university, apprenticeships, further study or employment.
