☀️ As we are currently experiencing a heatwave, it can be tempting for children and families to cool off by swimming in open water. However, rivers, lakes, reservoirs and canals can be extremely dangerous, even in warm weather.

Please take some time to talk to your child about the importance of water safety and the risks associated with open water swimming.

We have attached some helpful posters to support conversations at home. Thank you for helping us keep our children safe this summer.

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we are expecting some hot weather this week, children may come to school either in their normal summer uniform (summer dresses or shorts — no blazers or jumpers needed) or in their PE kit.

Our school PE kit consists of:
• Dark shorts (navy blue or black)
• White socks
• Maroon school t-shirt
• Trainers

Please ensure sun cream is applied before school each morning and that your child brings a filled water bottle each day. Children will be able to refill their bottles during the day.

Thank you for your support.

Our Healthy Families sessions are designed to support parents and carers with practical advice and confidence-building skills to support children’s wellbeing.
The nest session, Eating Well is Tuesday @ 12.30pm.
This session explores why healthy eating is important and looks at common reasons why children may be reluctant to eat certain foods. We discuss simple, positive ways to encourage children to try new foods and introduce the Eatwell Guide to help families build balanced meals.

At St George’s CofE School, we’re committed to supporting our pupils’ health, wellbeing and readiness to learn.

Milk plays an important role in helping children stay nourished and focused throughout the school day. However, under current rules, children lose access to free school milk when they turn five – meaning some pupils stop receiving milk partway through their Reception year.

We’re supporting the Fair Milk for a Fair Start campaign, which is calling for a simple change so all children can receive free milk until the end of Reception.

📢 Reception Places Offer Day – Important Information 📢

Today, families will receive their Reception place offers from the local authority.

If your child has been offered a place at our school, we are very much looking forward to welcoming you and your family.

✅ What happens next?

Families must accept their place directly with the local authority by the deadline stated in your offer email/letter.

Once places are accepted, we will receive confirmation from the local authority and begin our admissions process.

🌟 Transition to Reception

We understand that starting school is a big step, and we have a carefully planned transition programme to support both children and parents.

Over the coming weeks, parents of children joining us will receive:
A welcome pack with key information
Dates and details of transition sessions and stay-and-play visits
Information about meet-the-teacher events and starting arrangements in September

If your child is joining us from a nursery setting, we will also liaise directly with providers to ensure a smooth transition.

📩 If you have any questions while waiting for your offer or after accepting your place, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the school office.

We wish all families the very best on Reception Offer Day and look forward to meeting our new starters soon!

With school holidays here, children and young people are likely spending more time online - so now’s a great time to check in on their digital safety 💻

Here are a few simple tips for parents and carers:

✅ Start early: Talk about internet safety from a young age. Even primary school children can come across cyberbullying or inappropriate content.

✅ Keep communication open: Let your child know they can always come to you if something online worries or upsets them.

✅ Know how to report: Take time to learn the reporting tools on apps and social platforms, and encourage your child to use them if needed.

✅ Use parental controls: Set up controls to block unsuitable content and explore child-friendly apps or “kids mode” settings.
