It's hot today!
I'm teaching a double conversation class to a student whose goal is increasing verbal fluency and confidence. He has progressed so much since we met. This is definitely one of the best things about this job.

I used this story story of a young boy with a stutter as part of recent class, and wanted to share it with you all.
It is read by pop star Ed Sheeran, who shares his own story in a very heartfelt way, and whose words are very moving.
Please share this with anyone you know who struggles with pronunciation. 🧡
Vocabulary Focus:
heartfelt /ˈhɑːtfelt/ (adj)
Sincere. (of a feeling or its expression) deeply and strongly felt.
e.g. "Our heartfelt thanks goes out to you all."

😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is just the kind of punctuation humour I am totally here for.
I love the shade!
NB: To be here for something = to absolutely love or enthusiastically appreciate a concept or thing. https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/here-for

Happy spring everyone!
The clocks have leapt forward here in the UK, so I have done a little rescheduling of my classes. About half of my students live in countries which don't change to summer time, and half live in countries which do.

That feeling you get when...a student you have been teaching for many years says that they would like to become an English Teacher 🥰
"That feeling you get when..." is a way to introduce your experience and share it with friends. It is popular on social media, so you may see it there.
You may also see posts which omit the first part, and simply start "When..." e.g. "When a student you have been teaching for many years says that they would like to become an English Teacher 🥰"
Can you spot any today?

I haven't said hello for a long time, so wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year and a prosperous and healthy 2025.
Here I am this evening, preparing for my class. After nearly 25 years of classroom experience I teach exclusively online these days. I love the flexibility it offers, and so do my students.
I'm teaching a lesson about Bollywood this evening. Perhaps I should have dressed for the part!
.............
to dress the part (idiom). See also 'look the part,' and 'act the part.'

An advanced student in Japan has been working on his report writing. We did this sorting exercise together in class today, during my morning and his evening. We studied and discussed report structure and language together.
He will be writing three plans and one full report for homework, which we will look at together next week.
Do you know someone who needs to feel more confident in professional report writing? Perhaps their goals are more about speaking and listening, or perhaps they have a new job and need to upskill in technical vocabulary qu**ky. I tailor my one to one classes to whatever my students need and enjoy.
I have space for new students. As I teach exclusively online, I am able to teach people from all over the world. Please get in touch.
Thank you for recommending me.

“Although” Versus “While”
Today’s topic is “although” versus “while.” I often have to tell people that their pet peeves aren’t actually hard-and-fast grammar rules. I have to tell people that it’s OK to split infinitives, and that in some cases it’s fine to end a sentence with a preposition or use the word .....
