“Functional training” might be one of the most overused and misunderstood terms in fitness 😂
A kettlebell isn’t functional just because it’s a kettlebell
A BOSU ball doesn’t automatically make something functional because you’re wobbling around on it
And an exercise doesn’t need to look like some elaborate reallife movement to count
The question is:
Functional for WHO… and for WHAT?
Your job, sport, hobbies, health, physical limitations and day-to-day life all place different demands on your body
For one person, functional training might be sprinting and plyometrics
For another, it might be heavy strength work
For someone else, it might literally be building enough singleleg strength to get upstairs confidently
Different person means different function which means different training
The goal is pretty simple:
Figure out what you need your body to be capable of doing, then train the qualities that help you do it
That’s functional training.
Now I’m curious… what does YOUR body need to be good at? 👀
