Stepping Stones Pre-School

Playdough is always a popular activity at pre-school! Not only is it lots of fun, but it helps strengthen and improve fine motor skills needed for writing, using scissors and being able to use fastenings on clothes. It also supports early maths skills by comparing sizes, counting and exploring textures. Why not have a go at making your own playdough! We’d love to see your photos on Tapestry!

Today is National Book Lovers Day. At Pre-School we loving reading a variety of books together at story time and independently throughout the day. We also provide a bookbag for every child to enable them to share their love of reading at home too!
Sharing stories help to develop children’s communication and language, builds their listening and attention skills and boosts cognitive abilities (National Literacy Trust).
Some of our favourite authors are Julie Donaldson, Eric Carle, Tom Fletcher, Judith Kerr and Jill Murphy. What books do you like sharing together? Let us know in the comments!

Today is the start of the Commonwealth Games which is the perfect opportunity to encourage all children to discover the joy of being active.
Physical activity isn't just about exercise—it's about increasing confidence, developing coordination including gross and fine motor skills, learning new things, developing relationships and, most importantly, having fun!
Why not go on a nature walk, create your own obstacle course in the garden, visit the local park, bounce on the trampoline or play football?

We'd love to hear what activities you try in the summer holidays! You could upload some photos to Tapestry so we can share them together when we re-open in September!

What a busy first week back! We have been making fireworks rings, icing sugar firework pictures and firework paintings! We have even managed to make some poppies too!
