Step N Grooves offers its pupils the chance to learn modern (N.A.T.D) Freestyle Disco and Street dance, participate in our exam sessions and annual show weekend but most importantly of all, to become part of the Step N Grooves family. We are quite different to other dance schools; we have a unique ethos amid the modern dance world. Steph, founder of Step N Grooves, grew up in competitive dance and

always felt that it wasn't quite the right avenue for her as a dancer. She resolved to build a school with an alternative focus – with zero pressure. Step N Grooves provides a quality, solid dance foundation focusing on confidence, technique and rhythm, whilst just having fun. We choreograph challenging routines for our dancers, never underestimating them. This has proven central to its success – our dancers really thrive. Pupils can enter for N.A.T.D Freestyle / Street Syllabus & Graded Freestyle Syllabus exams – but these aren’t compulsory at all! We work towards an annual show weekend in December.

Spent the weekend back in Birmingham at the National Association of Teachers of Dancing - NATD Congress with Poppy & Gemma - celebrating 120 years of the association. Lovely to spend time with so many super supportive people & buddies, 4 years on from being appointed as an examiner. Thank you for coming with me both 💗

Examiners meeting National Association of Teachers of Dancing - NATD where we presented the redesigned Freestyle Syllabus after nearing a year of hard graft on the Freestyle Committee.

I am so proud to have been a part of this, especially working with my lovely friends - Jill, Rosie, Lisa who were appointed as examiners 4 years ago alongside me (and been a pleasure to work with Paul too who I met through this)

Very bitter sweet that my wonderful mentor and friend, freestyle extraordinaire Bev wasn’t able to see this come to fruition. Miss her so much.

I have LOVED being able to use our own SNG pupils for the silhouettes throughout the design, used them in the presentation today to all the other examiners and used them to film the example videos for teachers to buy & follow. Shout out to Poppy, Millie, Lily who filmed - as well as Ava, Freya, Verity, Harper, Gemma, Ella C, Lola, Erin, Seren and Evie H who all were photographed / filmed for one thing or another during classes for me to use in one way or other on this journey.

I have re-wrote the book, designed the cover and been a part of the dream team re-imagining all the graded routines.

Late nights and early mornings to get to this point but we did it 💪 Now back to Congress tomorrow after classes.

Erm yep, just 3 lessons post exams with lots of games in between & they produce these - Street Bigs - Street Middles - Street Smalls 💪 “Ahhh you all oui’ed” 🤣

RESULTS ARE IN & once again our MEGA bunch have scored...

100% HIGHLY COMMENDED & DISTINCTIONS in their National Association of Teachers of Dancing - NATD Freestyle & Street examinations.

Everyone should be so so proud. You really do graft!!

Miss Collins said "Very well organised sessions - students were polite, well presented & keen to show their work. On one of the hottest days of the year the dancers were remarkable. Loved the routines. Wonderful to see a variety of Street Grades."

Trophies & medals won't be with me for 5/6 weeks hence our presentation on Sep 20th (get that date down!)

Last 2 of our 2026 exam day “PULLED IT OUT THE BAG” medals awarded this evening 🥰

Erin - Becoming such a precise, effortlessly pretty little dancer who has this year been storming her Smalls classes & is now trying Middles. She very quietly bosses out her dances & we all have really noticed her improvement this year 🥰

Will - Our brilliant floor covering pro has just grown stronger & stronger these past 6 months, executing choreo with power & speed and jumping THAT pike jump sky high on exam day! Even taking on a slow dance for his exams for one of the first times ever?! Really shows how he is growing as a dancer 💙

Congratulations again Elsie B, Wren H, Olivia, Erin, Callum & Will 🫶

The first 4 exam “PULLED IT OUT THE BAG” awards have been dished out 🏅

Such a ridiculously hard job to choose amongst everyone going full at it on exam day but here are the reasons these guys just clinched it…

Elsie B - Elsie has come SO far from day dot & this year moved into Middles choosing to boss out one of the harder dances for her exams (and did it solo in class infront of everyone perfectly before exam day!) as well as taking on Preliminary Street, finishing off her later rainbows & an annual! Always with positivity and always supporting others around her ♥️ She smiled all the way through her exams.

Wren H - Wren does Street only and is working her way up to being a little power house. She is incredibly hard working and focused and she wacked out her exam dances with such precision ♥️

Olivia - Following in her big sissys footsteps she has really started to prove herself as an incredibly solid, hard working, beautiful little dancer who performed her exams with a lovely confidence & accuracy while managing to stay forever humble ♥️

Callum - He has erupted as a slow dancer this year - executing slow with such musicality & feeling that left our examiner blown away with his progress since she last examined him. He has had quite the journey through SNG and it’s been amazing to watch him start to fly ♥️

And then mega Millie, a separate award - she deserves recognition for all she does. She has received these kinds of awards a few years running for exams & could consistently but I felt it right she be acknowledged not only for her stunning work but the constant dedication she has - always striving to do the most exams she can (Gold Bar Freestyle & Street plus Grade 5 Hip Hop was intense!) as well as attending all the other graded lessons to support me ♥️ So a special little recognition award for her x
