This week our theme is the story, 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. Graeme read the story using props, such as a big and little teddy bear, a toy owl, and a cullinder! The children all sat beautifully throughout the story. They joined in with actions of the rocket taking off, the Owl flying and the rocket landing with a thump. After the story the children had the opportunity to play with the props and retell the story in their own way. We then had our milk and went outside for a play, before getting messy and painting the 'rocket' colourfully.

Linked to our Hansel and Gretal theme, our sensory activity was breadcrumbs and pebbles which represented those left on the trail by the children in the story. We searched for the hidden pebbles, compared the textures of the pebbles and breadcrumbs. We sprinkled, squeezed and ran our fingers through the breadcrumbs.
While our youngest children explored, breadcrumbs and pebbles, our preschoolers and rising preschoolers had a play in cornflour. We then added water to the flour, this made the mix go from hard when it was on the table, and to soft when we touched it. It was hard to make marks it in. We held it in our hands and watched it turn to liquid and dribble through our fingers. We tried to catch the dribble. It was a great activity for descriptive language and learning new words like, gloopy.

Tots group was very quiet this morning, so all of our children had a turn getting a song prop out of the bag to choose the song, instead of it usually being two of our children getting to choose. One of our newer children is still finding her feet when we go to group. So we were very proud of her when she went to the front to choose her song. As group was so quiet, it meant that our children had the parachute virtually to themselves, which they seemed to really enjoy.

Continuing our Hansel and Gretel story themed week, we set up the tough tray with woodland objects, a house, the picture characters from the story and magnifying glasses. The children were keen to explore the scene. They used the magnifying glasses to look at the objects on the table. Some re-told parts of the story and others used thier imagination to role play a scene from the story. They also, after a while, used the sticks to build a pretend campfire. Later on in the day, Graeme read the Hansel and Gretel story using the picture props. We all sat engrossed, throughout, listening to the story and joining in, when it was needed.

This week, our theme is the story of, 'Hansel and Gretal'. Today in line with the story, we went out into the woods, where Graeme read us the story. After reading it, Graeme said he had noticed bread crumbs on the ground as we walked through the woods, just like in the story. We wondered what was at the end of the breadcrumb trail, so we set off to find out. The children all raced to see who could find the bread first. We followed the trail along the path and back into the woods, where we found our milk and cups! I wonder how they got there?

Continuing our harvest theme, this morning, we made some biscuits. Before the children started making their biscuits, they all sat and listenened to Graeme explain which ingredients that we needed and told us all about the method of baking. Each child then had a go at scooping and counting the ingredients into the bowl. They also had lots of opportunities to mix the ingredients together. We were so busy helping and getting sticky hands, ourselves, that we didn't get anymore photos. Once the biscuits were cooked and cooled, each child's biscuits were put into their bags ready to take home.

After dropping off our donations. To thank the children for their kindness, donations and being so good taking the donations, we went to Mcdonalds for a snack. The children all had a drink of orange juice or water with carrot sticks and apple slices.

Today, we took our painting outside. They were all given a picture of a tree with no leaves on. The idea of the activity was to, using a small paintbrush and paint, to dab leaves onto the tree. We showed them a tree whose leaves were changing colours and then set them off painting. We asked them to use all of the colours and not mix the colours up in the paint tray. They all did a splendid job.

Today, was all about the story of, 'The Scarecrow's Wedding'. Graeme read the story, using props that were small world pictures from the story. Through out the story, we all made a variety of sounds and actions, shooing the crows away, buzzing like the bee and ringing the bells that were around the cows' necks. The children all engaged in the sounds and actions, where they could, and were engrossed throughout the story. After Graeme had finished the story, all of our children had the chance to re-enact the story using the book and all of the props. Later in the morning, we collaged a scarecrow's face. Which incorporated lots of mathematical language, such as shapes and positional words. While the older children completed the craft, our youngest two had a sensory activity, finding farm animals in a tray of straw, accompanied by lots of animal sounds from Graeme.
