National childminder day ❤️

I’ve been childminding just over 18 months now and it’s such a unique but enjoyable job. I’ve been very fortunate to work with the most incredible families who have brought me the most fantastic children who I get to watch grow and develop each day. I’ve just welcomed Mr E as our newest addition and I’m excited to see him grow with his new friends. Everyday we have our own little adventures filled with walks, free play, child led activities, dancing, singing and reading to name just a few. The day is our own and I can pace the day according to the children’s interests, ensuring they’re always happy and developing ❤️

If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know how much I love buddies and lodges. They’re great as open ended resources to intrigue imagination. I love the affirmations on these ‘positive treasures’. All of these items are who do a weekly restock or if you’ve missed an item you like they do custom slots too.

Can you tell I was a rep for them the past 6 months? 🤣

What better start to the week then a walk!

Since it’s rained so much the past few days we knew that meant big puddles so we went off in search of them! We regularly visit this quiet country park just a short walk from my home but no matter how many times we visit we still love it!

Exactly one year ago today I opened my doors as a childminder for the very first time and today was also my QA visit from Rutland Early Years Childminder Support
I’m really pleased to announce I’ve been graded Good which I’m over the moon with! As a Rutland early years childminder we get yearly graded QA visits.

The very hungry caterpillar snacktivity and loose parts play dough 🐛❤️ Yesterday we read the very hungry caterpillar and snacked on the fruit from the story (except Pears as Asda forgot to put them in my online shop but never mind!). Today we did loose parts play dough to see what the children would create. We discovered bangles are brilliant for mark making! How it started and how it ended ❤️ today I set up a book tray based on ‘Thomas & friends a day at the zoo’ which is a favourite here. I included some baby safe gelatine with food colouring with some zoo animals inside. The girls initially showed only a short interest before walking away. So I changed tactics and added some spoons, scoops and a muffin tray and their play extended to about 40 minutes with lots of scooping and pouring. What we set up doesn’t always go to plan but by following the childrens lead we can adapt activities to engage them more. What toddler doesn’t love scooping and pouring? 😁note to self: next time add a waterproof mat underneath to save stepping on wet bits of the carpet next time 😂

Why choose a childminder?

This picture does a lovely job of outlining the benefits of a childminder. As a registered Childminder I provide a welcoming, home from home environment adapting to each child’s needs and interests.

⭐️I get to know each child very well as I work so closely with the child and their family.
⭐️ I go on walks and trips within the community. ⭐️I follow the same requirements as a nursery but without the same budget, space, or staff levels.
⭐️I enjoy quality time with my little ones I care so deeply for.
⭐️I am flexible with meal times, nap times, play times, outdoors times by listening to what the children want and need on that day.
⭐️I can accept funded spaces just like nurseries do.
⭐️I prepare children for life and for school. I love each child as if they are my own, wanting only the best for them.

Every childminder and their home is different and unique ❤️

🌼🐝World bee day🐝🌼

This morning Emily and A did some scooping and pouring with the coloured rice for World bee day. As you can see, Emily loved it! Swipe to see the before and after shot!

Bee facts:
💛 Bees pollinate 90% of wild flowers and 75% of the worlds crops
💛Only female bees can sting
💛There's 20,000 species of bee in the world with about 250 in the UK.
💛 Honey bees do a 'waggle dance' to communicate between themselves
💛Bees life cycle is 30-60 days
💛If bees disappeared off the earth, it's estimated man could only continue to exist for about 4 years.

Why not add some bee friendly plants to your garden to help the bees out? 🌼🌸🌹🌷

National Childminder Day ❤

Being a childminder is so much more than taking care of children whilst their parents work. It's the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly crying.

It's the tears, the tantrums, nose wiping, bum wiping, vomit cleaning, coughs and colds, school run in all weathers, crumb hoovering, toy tidying knowing they'll just get tipped out all over again.

But its also the comforting an upset child, settling a new child, supporting the child to do something for the first time, learning each child's interests and adapting play to their needs and nurturing each child to ensure they get the best possible start in life. The list is endless as each childminder is as unique as their children they care for.

I've only been a childminder since September 2021 but it's such a amazing job. Although we have our daily routine, each day is different and I absolutely love it ❤

Today we visited our local garden centre to look at the flowers and talk about their colours and sizes. We spotted some vegetable seeds and the children took great interest so we bought some carrot seeds to try and grow 🥕 Emily and A helped me fill the pots with soil whilst L supervised.

🚜Old Macdonald had a farm...🚜Today I did an edible farm tray with the 2 little ones, combining snacking with playtime is always a winner!

👑 We even included our special Jubilee peg dolls for a royal visit as both the girls love them!
