Hope you've all had a great half term - here's what's happening this week but dont forget that TOMORROW is PJ Day πŸ’€
We feel it is vitally important that school responds to the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria and we would like to raise funds by having a PJ day (or just non school uniform) on Monday 27th February. Children not in uniform should bring a minimum donation of Β£1 which we will collect and take to a reputable collection site. Please note that this is a CASH ONLY collection.

Whole School
World Book Day 🌏 It will be World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March.You are welcome to come dressed as a character from a book, you don't need to spend lots of money - home made costumes from what you already have are perfect! There are lots of ideas online for easy costumes!
Book Fair πŸ“š We will also be holding a FREE book fair after school from Tuesday 28th February - Thursday 2nd March every day after school. Come along to pick some FREE books to grow your home library!

Strikes ⚠️ Please be aware that there is a further NES union strike on Tuesday 28th February so can parents please keep an eye on school communication to inform which classes will be involved.

Consents βœ”οΈ Please ensure that you have logged into Arbor and given consent for "GDPR 5". Without this consent on our system, children will not be able to access Seesaw which is your primary access to photos and information of what children have been up to in class, and also their class homework.

Nursery
New Outdoor Area β›Ί Over half term we are refurbishing our outdoor area. We would appreciate that equipment is left tidied away so that it remains set up for the day.

Homework πŸ“ There will be no formal homework this week, however as part of our topic we are learning about different landmarks and places around the UK. We would love for any photos to be uploaded onto Seesaw of places your child has visited during half term.
Forest School πŸ¦” Reception had an amazing time at forest school this week and are excited to be back after half term. The dates for Reception are: Tues 28.2.23, Tues 7.3.23, Tues 14.3.23. Please ensure your child is wrapped up in warm and waterproof clothing including appropriate footwear (wellies if possible).
Outdoor Wishlist ✨ We are still collecting resources from our Outdoor Wishlist so please let a member of staff know if you have anything to donate.

Year 1

Year 2
Well Done Year 2 ⭐ We want to say a huge well done to our Year 2's for their fantastic work this half-term. Have a great holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 27th February.

Year 3
Newcastle Falcons πŸ‰ Year 3 will have the Newcastle Falcons coming in on Monday 27th February (first day back) during the afternoon to do practical rugby and work on healthy lifestyles. Please send in outdoor PE kit (joggers and trainers, etc).

Year 4
Newcastle Falcons πŸ‰ Just a reminder that on Monday 27th February (first day back), Newcastle Falcons will be coming in to do rugby with Year 4. Please can children bring in PE kits on Monday instead of Wednesday that week.
Homework πŸ“ Homework folders go out every Friday to be returned the following Friday.

Year 5
Walking Home/Mobile Phone PermissionsπŸ“± Please make sure you have completed a mobile phone / walking home permission form if you wish your child to walk home alone and/or have their phone with them to walk home.
Phones πŸ“΅ Phones must be handed in. If your child brings one to school without permission, it will be held at the office for a parent to collect.

Rainforest Models πŸ… Thank you for the AMAZING rainforest models - they are incredible and such a good way to learn!
Homework πŸ“ Homework will be given out in folders from first week back - Tuesday given out, Monday hand in. Please take care of it and return it each week.
Reading πŸ“š Reading has slipped a little - please help us to keep your child on track by reading regularly with them at home.

Year 6

School Meals 🍽 Please find attached to this email a copy of the menu of meals we will be providing in school this year. Next week will be Week 1.
Absences ❌ Please note that absences taken in term time without prior permission from the school may result in legal sanctions, this includes holidays. You could be issued with a penalty notice (fixed penalty fine) for each child or prosecuted. Children who fall below an overall attendance figure of 90% must also provide doctors evidence for illnesses that require time off, you will be notified by school if your child is within this category. Seesaw πŸ’» We use Seesaw to share pictures and information on what your child has been up to in class during the week. To access Seesaw you must first consent to "GDPR 5" via the Arbor app and then request a home learning code from your class teacher. Spelling Test ⭐ We want to say a HUGE well done to the Year 3's for their first spelling test this week - everyone did fantastically!
PE Kits πŸ‘• Don't forget that PE kits are needed on Tuesdays.
Spelling Shed ✍ Just a reminder to go on Spelling Shed to complete your spellings at home.
Reading Books πŸ“š Remember to bring your reading books into school on your child's reading day.

Year 2
✍ Homework is given out on a Friday and must be returned by Wednesday. Please ensure that your child is completing their assigned work at home.
Reading at Home πŸ¦‰ Children need to read with an adult at home at least three times in a week.
Maps πŸ“ We have been doing some excellent map work in Geography and Miss Waters has been very impressed! Well done Year 2!

Year 3
Forest School πŸ¦” Just a reminder that Forest School is on Tuesday.
Segedunum Trip 🚍 Just a reminder to make sure you sign up for our Roman Trip to Segedunum on Monday 13th of February. To do this log into Arbor then go to Activities > Trips > Y3 Roman Trip to Segedunum and pay the £1.50 contribution fee which covers all travel expenses.

Year 4
The Great Fire of Newcastle πŸ”₯ Year 4 have been learning all about the Great Fire of Newcastle this week, please see photos on Seesaw of all their amazing work!
Trip to the Baltic 🎨 On Wednesday 8th February, Year 4 will be going on a trip to the Quayside and Baltic, please see Arbor for more details and don't forget to sign up!

Year 5
Shadow Monsters πŸ‘Ή We have been investigating shadows and animal classification this week - ask your child about their shadow monsters (photos to follow on Seesaw)!
Words ✍ We have been learning lots of new words too such as encrusted and gnarled - see how many your child can remember!
Reading at Home πŸ“š Please make sure your child is reading at least three times a week and writing in their diaries - It can be a book from home!
Tables and Spellings πŸ“– Please don't forget to keep practicing tables and spellings.
Rainforest Homework 🌴 Thank you to those of you who have already started or completed our homework task: Building a rainforest - they are looking amazing. Remember there are resources available from school. We will put photos on Seesaw soon!

Year 6
We will no longer be having PE on Thursdays meaning that PE will now only be happening on Fridays. Don't forget to bring your PE kits in!
