Staff Wellbeing Programme August Self Care Challenge Tip Of The Day
When we are stressed, we can become critical of ourselves. We are often harder on ourselves than we are on others. This is because the brain’s safety system is activated by stress. The brain views self-criticism as a protective mechanism. The intention is to motivate you to correct your behaviour, but often self-criticism has the opposite effect. It shuts you down.

We are often more forgiving and supportive of our good friends. When they make mistakes, we are supportive and helpful.
Try treating yourself in the way you would treat a good friend this week and see how this helps you to reduce your stress levels and find productive solutions to your challenges.

Staff Wellbeing Programme August Self Care Challenge Tip Of The Day
Giving to others triggers your brain’s reward centre. It helps you to foster social connections. We are social animals, and so we feel good when we are able to make a difference to others. This may well be a key reason why you are in your job role.
See if you can give someone something today. It could be something as simple but beneficial as a kind word or a friendly smile.

Staff Wellbeing Programme August Self Care Challenge Tip Of The Day
Gratitude boosts serotonin and dopamine by rewiring your brain to focus on positives. When you look for the positive, you will notice more and more things you feel grateful for. Even on the most stressful days, there is usually something that you are grateful for. It might be the passerby smiling at you on your walk or that your favourite biscuits were available in the staffroom.
Try to find three things you feel grateful for each day this week. Write them in your journal and see how Gratitude can boost your mood.
