Young Engineers Warwick
Our residents were tasked with creating their very own motorised fairground carousel courtesy of Lead STEM Instructor Maninder Kaur Laxhman, Young Engineers Warwick.
Young Engineers Warwick offer a series of programmes and workshops that provide theoretical knowledge and practical implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Now in their golden age our residents were unsure if they had the skills to create such a fascinating model. On handling each piece they were taken back to their younger days using plastic building blocks.
Maninder was amazing, she guided the group through every step. Working with the small building block pieces was at first a challenge for some, but soon they all found the dexterity and motor skills to handle and solve the puzzle. The joy on their faces in completing the model and flicking the switch to see every carousel come to life was ground-breaking.
It goes to show, whatever your age, learning new skills can enrich your life for the better. We look forward to working with Maninder and the Warwick Young Engineers on tailoring future workshops for the residents within each of our homes.
General Manager, Laura Russell, said: “We have all been inspired by Maninder and her workboxes full of Lego! It was so interesting to see how our residents would react and interact with the small plastic blocks, many have reduced dexterity yet excelled with minimal support. Watching the carousels in motion was a triumph for all participants. Our residents love to learn new things so they were really keen to get stuck in.”
Christine Clarke a resident, said: “I’ve not tried to use Lego since my children were young, I’m surprised how easy I found reading the instructions and managed to get the carousel spinning.”
Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
We are welcoming new residents into our homes to ensure that we are there for those that need care and support. Please do give us a call on 01926 430 351 if you are looking for care or need any further help. To find out more, please visit https://www.barchester.com/home/cubbington-mill-care-home

And that's a wrap!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for a great first year for Young Engineers Warwick. I launched Young Engineers last Christmas with the hope of reaching 100 children and to date we have taught 620 amazing young engineers plus 75 adults 💚
It really warms my heart to see how much the children (and grown ups) have enjoyed our sessions.
Wishing you all a wonderful festive break and I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
Amazing creations from our Crackley Hall School students as we wrap up the term. Wishing you and your families a wonderful festive break.

So much creativity from our students King Henry VIII Preparatory School They learnt about 90 degree transmission and used crown gears and worm gears. They all executed the mechanism beautifully and showed their creative side.

Come and join us with our Christmas Engineering Workshops. We have two sessions running on Tuesday 20th December Finham Park School perfect for 6 to 12 year olds.
We hit the ground running today at Bablake Junior and Pre Prep with our Young Engineers learning about the mechanisms in a music box and using snail gears to slow down transmission.

Learning through play with Young Engineers
Mrs Twaites reported this group carried out some fantastic adaptations showing a great understanding of 90 degree transmission. Well done all.

Two sessions have now been released. Book your space at www.bookeo.com/youngengineerswarwick
Our Young Engineers at King Henry VIII Preparatory School had so much fun yesterday they didn't want the session to end!
A great start to this week's model at Bablake Junior and Pre Prep school. The students learnt about the advantages and disadvantages of belt and gear transmission and built cars using combination transmission.

Christmas Workshop bookings are now live.
Every child receives a Lego gift and a certificate upon completion of their model.

Some highlights from our workshops yesterday. A huge thanks for all those that participated, we loved seeing you all build and adapt your models and persevere while problem solving. We especially loved seeing the spark of creativity from the parents!
Thanks again to Warwick Institute of Engagement and Coventry Transport Museum for hosting.

Never forgotten. Always remembered.

We all agree with this and look forward to seeing it in action

We ended half term at Bablake Junior and Pre Prep with delivery vehicles using gear transmission.
This class has been waiting patiently to have a go making a vehicle. Today students at Crackley Hall School had fun learning about gear transmission and building their own delivery car.

Leamington woman is shortlisted for young engineer award
So wonderful to hear a local woman has been shortlisted for IETs Young Woman Engineer of the Year Award 2022.
"Engineers create the technologies that shape the world around us, and I truly believe that we need a diverse community of engineers to ensure that the future we are building is the best it can be, for absolutely everyone." Constance Rudman
Such an amazing achievement to be a finalist and we all wish her the very best of luck.
Leamington woman is shortlisted for young engineer award Constance Rudman, 22, is a body engineering degree apprentice at Jaguar Land Rover. She has been shortlisted for the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Young Woman Engineer (YWE) of the Year Awards 2022.
Mrs Twaites was so impressed with these Young Engineers yesterday and said "This class has already started to work with what they have learnt and are adapting their models with confidence."
Well done all.
Such a lovely group of students to work with at Bablake Junior and Pre Prep on Monday at our weekly class.
Apologies for the delay in posting, we have so much footage to get through.
They all worked so well and had great fun playing with the conveyor belts they made.
Fun experimenting and learning with belt transmission.
This week our Bricks Challenge students are learning all about belt transmission and how it's used to spin the drum in washing machines.
This particular class took experimenting to another level by putting their (smelly) socks 🧦 in their models to test out! 🤣
Drop us a socks 🧦 emoji if you like the way our students work 🧦
Finding out all about belt transmission and how washine machines operate.
Experiential learning in action. Our students learn by doing and then reflect on the process. They were able to use their reflections to think of other ways in which they could lift their "crate" and were then able to adapt their models.

We love to celebrate our students and these two superstars showed resilience and perseverance. Lots of building, dismantling and rebuilding with many failed attempts. However, they both persevered, never gave up and didn't lose heart. Well done to them both for being determined and completing the build regardless of the challenges they faced.
Another wonderful session with our Young Engineers at Bablake Junior and Pre Prep
Learning about centrifugal force with carousels.
Our Crackley Hall School girls showing us how it's done 💪

Learning about centrifugal force with carousels

These Young Engineers were so pleased with their working carousels today. They worked so well today and a big well done to Z who was awarded a certificate for persevering even when he was frustrated and wanted to give up. Well done all!

We hitbthe ground running today learning about the importance of structures and different ways to reinforce them. We would love to know what the children thought of their first session.
