BilinguaSing Coventry & Kenilworth, French & German

BilinguaSing Coventry & Kenilworth, French & German Bilingual French and German music and movement classes for babies and young children in Coventry, Kenilworth and surrounding areas. It really is infectious!

At BilinguaSing, we are passionate about children being introduced to a second language from birth, or as early as possible. We also know that music, movement and sensory experiences are fundamental to children’s development, which is what makes our language classes different! We harness the power of music and use engaging props to make language learning super-active and lots of fun. We sing well-known nursery rhymes and popular children’s songs in English and German/French. We’re constantly amazed at how quickly such young children (and their grown-ups!) are singing along in a foreign language! Come and join in the fun…

Hurrah! The first full week of term is done.✅

It's been quite a week with a LOT going on but it's been so lovely to see all my classes again and welcome many new families to the world of BilinguaSing, too! 🇫🇷 🇩🇪

Just a school run and a swimming lesson to go then maybe a glass of something to welcome the weekend?

Wishing you all 'bon weekend' / 'schoenes Wochenende!'

💙🎵🌎 In this week’s A-Z of BilinguaSing, ‘g’ stands for ‘gross motor skills’! 🚶🏃‍♀️ 🤾‍♀️

“In a language class?” you might be wondering? 🤔

DEFINITELY in a BilinguaSing language class! 🙌

No matter how old your little one is, we always incorporate lots of movement into our sessions to help stimulate the development of their gross motor skills – which in turn help their fine motor skills. ✍️ ✂️ 🍴

And as their gross & fine motor skills develop, your toddler or pre-schooler will show greater control as they interact with a variety of sensory props; as well as start to perform actions and sign language too.

That’s why BilinguaSing is SO MUCH MORE than another language class! 😍 .

Today sees a brand new after school club starting for us at Stivichall Primary school- French for years 3-6.

We already run clubs for Years 1 and 2 on a Monday and, as these have been popular over the last couple of years, we are expanding to allow children to continue with us right the way through to year 6 if they wish!

I was first welcomed into Stivichall in January 2023; we had a small lunchtime German club which I am hoping to re start at some point, to give children a greater choice of languages. 🇩🇪 🇫🇷

Our lunch time clubs for Years 1 and 2 return today for the children at Infant School in Kenilworth!

I'm so happy we are back in this lovely school for the fourth year running. What started back in February 2022 as a 30 minute club for years 1 and 2 mixed together, we now run the two year groups separately. Just like this parent mentions in their review, this allows children to progress over the whole two years if they wish.

This school was also the reason I needed to expand my team in 2023, as the waiting lists were so long! Reena joined me and is now the main teacher for these clubs.

We love how, after a time, we start to see siblings joining us. Most of the children here move on to the junior school in Year 3 where they learn French as part of their curriculum. We are delighted to be able to offer this head start for the children at Thorns.

I'll be using some of my admin time today to plan ahead for another school year teaching French at Howes Primary School.

I started working with Howes in September 2023 teaching French to all pupils in Years 3,4,5 & 6. I also run an after school club for the younger pupils, so I have got to know a LOT of children over the last few years.

I have to remember to use my proper 'teacher name' when I'm here; I mainly just use my first name in clubs and toddler classes. 'Madame Ellefredt' is quite tricky to say and takes some practice!

Spotlight on schools!🏫

As our children head back to school this week, I'll be introducing you to some of the local schools we are working with.

Did you know that teaching a foreign language is a compulsory part of the Key Stage 2 curriculum, which means you can expect your child to have lessons as part of their school week from Year 3 onwards. This can be in any language the school chooses but Spanish or French appear to be the most common options. It won't necessarily be the language they go on to study when they reach secondary school.

Starting at the age of 7 / 8 is great. It's certainly better than in my school days; my first French lesson was in Year 7 and German in Year 9! But, actually, it's still a bit late! If we consider how a baby / toddler brain is like a sponge, or even the concept of talking or singing to an unborn baby, it truly is a case of the younger, the better.

And this is where we come in with our language clubs for Reception, Years 1 & 2 (4-7 years), bosting confidence, speech develoment and fostering a love of language learning ready for the later school years.

We also understand that singing in a foreign language can make it easier to learn, which is why we combine our music with language learning. What do you remember more clearly- the lyrics to nursery rhymes from decades ago or your GCSE French phrases?🎶

Look out for the details I'll be sharing about the schools we currently work with, but if you or someone you know works at a school and would like to know more about partnering with us, simply comment 'schools' below and I'll get in touch!🩵
