🌟 Welcome Back! 🌟

What a lovely first morning back!

It has been so nice to welcome back lots of our returning children and families, as well as saying hello to some new faces.

A few of our youngest children needed a little extra reassurance at first, but it wasn’t long before they were happily exploring and joining in. Lots of others came straight back in as though they had never been away — finding their friends, choosing their favourite places to play and getting stuck straight in.

Now we just need the rain to stop! After such a lovely summer, we’re definitely not used to it. It hasn’t put our Outdoor Class off though — they’ve already been out collecting sticks and have made their first fire of the new school year!

A great first morning back — it’s lovely to have everyone back at nursery. 💛

Our staff have been back at school today for our INSET day, revising and refreshing our safeguarding training and exploring some of our other areas of focus for the year ahead.

We have missed you all so much and can’t wait to welcome everyone back over the coming days. We are also so excited to welcome all our new children and families to Brantfield, we can’t wait to get to know you!

We would also like to wish all our former Brantfield children the very best of luck as they start their new primary schools. Please send us your photos! We would love to see you looking so grown-up in your “big school” uniforms! 💛

Here’s to another wonderful year of Brantfield adventures! 🌿✨

🫖🌿 Our Pre-School Jacob’s Join Tea Party 🌿🫖

On Wednesday, we came together as a community for our very special Pre-School Jacob’s Join Tea Party.

Instead of a traditional graduation ceremony, we celebrated in a way that truly reflects who we are. Inspired by the Curiosity Approach, we believe that childhood is about belonging, relationships and shared experiences, so it felt only right to gather together with our families to celebrate the wonderful journey we’ve been on.

As families enjoyed food together, children proudly showed their parents and carers around our beautiful outdoor spaces—the gardens, the places they have explored, climbed, created, imagined and discovered in every day. It was so special to see them reminiscing about their favourite adventures and sharing the places that have meant so much to them throughout the year.

Our nursery has always been more than just a school—it’s a community—and Wednesday was a beautiful reminder of the friendships, connections and sense of belonging that make Kendal Nursery School so special.

Today marked our Pre-School children’s final day with us. It has been an absolute privilege to watch this amazing cohort grow into kind, confident, curious and capable young people. We couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of you.

To all of our children moving on to primary school, we wish you every happiness and success in your next adventure. Keep exploring, keep asking questions, be brave, be kind and never lose your sense of wonder.

Thank you to our wonderful families for your trust, support and friendship throughout your time with us. We hope you all have a fantastic summer filled with love, laughter and adventure.

Good luck to our children starting school in September—you are more than ready. Remember, wherever life takes you next, you will always be part of the Kendal Nursery School family. 💚

🌟 Celebrating Starting School and Summer Time 🌟

What a year we have had at Kendal Nursery School 💛

As the summer holidays begin, many of our children are getting ready for their next big adventure… starting school.

But what does being “school ready” really mean?

For us, it is not about being able to read, write your name perfectly or count to 100 before you arrive in Reception.

It is about developing the confidence to have a go, the independence to do more for yourself, the curiosity to explore, the resilience to keep trying and the ability to play, communicate and learn alongside others.

This year our children have been:

✨ getting lost in stories
✨ discovering the power of teamwork
✨ finding awe and wonder everywhere
✨ exploring, investigating and discovering new things
✨ having the courage to try
✨ solving problems together
✨ growing in confidence and independence
✨ building independence — even making their own lunch
✨ turning curiosity into adventure
✨ making friendships and memories
✨ learning to listen, share and take turns
✨ building big ideas through play
✨ finding joy in the everyday
✨ going places, exploring our world and making memories

And through all of this, they have been learning.

Learning how to manage challenges.
Learning how to make choices.
Learning how to communicate.
Learning how to be independent.
Learning how to be part of a group.
Learning that mistakes are part of growing.
Learning to believe, “I can have a go.”

We believe the best preparation for school is a childhood full of play.

So this summer, there is no need to turn home into a classroom. Let children play, explore, talk, wonder, help, climb, create, get muddy, make mistakes and try again.

Let them carry their own bag.
Help make a picnic.
Put on their own shoes.
Order their own ice cream.
Wait for a turn.
Lose a game.
Solve a problem.
Be bored long enough to invent something wonderful.

These are the everyday moments that build the confidence, independence and resilience children will take with them into school.

CBeebies Parenting also has some brilliant ideas and advice for families around starting school and enjoying the summer holidays, including “What does school readiness really mean?

To all of our wonderful Preschool children:

What a year! 💛

So much play.
So much laughter.
So much learning.
So much growing.

Now it’s time for your next adventure… 🌈

Have the most wonderful summer. ❤️

🤠🌵 Yeehaw! What an incredible Wild West Adventure Day we had as part of our final week of celebrations! ☀️

The sunshine made the perfect backdrop as our whole school came together for a day full of adventure, imagination and outdoor fun. The children explored a range of exciting Wild West activities including our rodeo ranch obstacle course, where everyone earned their very own rosette, line dancing, a treasure hunt, den building, Tin Can Alley, the watering hole, horse riding, and so much more!

There was plenty of campfire fun too, with children enjoying toasted marshmallows and spending the day exploring, creating, problem-solving and working together through play. It was wonderful to see children of all ages learning alongside one another, making memories and celebrating the fantastic year we’ve shared together.

We have loved every minute of our Wild West adventure! ⭐🐴

🌿🏞️ Over the past couple of weeks, our Outdoor Class Groups have been off on some amazing adventures! 🏞️🌿
As part of our outdoor learning experiences, the children have been exploring the local countryside, building confidence, resilience and teamwork every step of the way.
On one of our adventures, we began by preparing for our journey, making our own picnic together. Everyone helped to assemble wraps, chop fruit and vegetables, and pack everything we needed for the day.
We then set off on our walk, climbing onto the heights before stopping for a breadstick snack and a drink of water. From there, we crossed the golf course and walked through the fields to the pedestrian bridge over the dual carriageway.
Our adventure continued to Cunswick Scar, where the children were thrilled to reach the summit and discover the huge cairn of stones. They each added a stone to the pile to mark their visit before enjoying a well-earned picnic with breathtaking views of the surrounding fells. After lunch, there was plenty of time to play, explore and soak up the beauty of nature before beginning the walk back to nursery.
When we returned, everyone enjoyed a refreshing drink of apple and blackcurrant squash and a rich tea biscuit to celebrate a fantastic day.
We couldn't be prouder of all of our children. They demonstrated incredible stamina, resilience, determination and a fantastic can-do attitude throughout every adventure. What wonderful memories we've made together! 🌟💚

🍕 What a fantastic way to celebrate an amazing year together! 🎉

This week our Pre School children enjoyed a very special trip to Pizza Express to celebrate all they have achieved this year and to mark the exciting journey ahead as they get ready for “big school.” ❤️

Across our three trips, the different children became mini pizza chefs, learning all about the different ingredients that go into making a pizza, how pizzas are prepared, and then creating their very own masterpieces. The best part was sitting together in the restaurant to enjoy the pizzas they had made with their friends – a wonderful way to celebrate the memories they’ve created together over the past year.

Experiences like these help to build confidence, independence and create lasting memories as our children prepare for their next adventure.

A huge thank you to everyone at pizzaexpress Kendal for making us feel so welcome and giving our children such a special experience. 🍕✨

✨ WOW… what a day! 🎉🤍

Our hearts are so full! Thank you to every single person who came along to celebrate with us today. Seeing so many current families, former families, children, staff and friends of Brantfield together made for such a special day. We honestly feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a wonderful community. 🥹💚

We hope you all had the best time celebrating with us! Days like today remind us exactly why all of the planning, organising and hard work is so worthwhile. 💫

A HUGE thank you goes to our amazing staff and their families, who gave up their own time to help make today possible – whether you were running a stall, baking cakes, setting up, packing away or helping tidy at the end of a very long day. ❤️ You are simply the best, and we couldn’t do it without every single one of you. 👏🌟

📸 We’d LOVE to see your photos! Please share them with us on Tapestry or Facebook and don’t forget to tag us so we can relive such a fantastic day together.

And finally…

🤍 Happy 80th Birthday to our very special Brantfield! 🤍

What an incredible milestone. Here’s to celebrating 80 wonderful years of memories, friendships, laughter and learning – and to many, many more! 🥂🌳✨

Child‑led play sits at the heart of what we do at Kendal Nursery School. When children take the lead, their learning becomes deeper, more meaningful, and far more enjoyable. Our provision is designed so their ideas can genuinely shape the day.

We’re showing our children that their thinking has value. When children choose what to explore, they stay curious, motivated and deeply involved in their learning. Our environments, whether they're indoors, in the gardens or on the Wildside, are set up so that children can follow their ideas, test out their thinking and return to what interests them most.

We spot what interests children and give it space. Sometimes that means offering something new to try out, and other times it means hanging back and letting them figure things out in their own way. You’ll see children making decisions, solving problems and creating their own paths. When we follow their lead, their curiosity grows, their independence strengthens and their creativity shines.

It’s simple, purposeful and powerful...children learning because they want to, not because they’re told to.
