🌟 Celebrating Starting School and Summer Time 🌟
What a year we have had at Kendal Nursery School 💛
As the summer holidays begin, many of our children are getting ready for their next big adventure… starting school.
But what does being “school ready” really mean?
For us, it is not about being able to read, write your name perfectly or count to 100 before you arrive in Reception.
It is about developing the confidence to have a go, the independence to do more for yourself, the curiosity to explore, the resilience to keep trying and the ability to play, communicate and learn alongside others.
This year our children have been:
✨ getting lost in stories
✨ discovering the power of teamwork
✨ finding awe and wonder everywhere
✨ exploring, investigating and discovering new things
✨ having the courage to try
✨ solving problems together
✨ growing in confidence and independence
✨ building independence — even making their own lunch
✨ turning curiosity into adventure
✨ making friendships and memories
✨ learning to listen, share and take turns
✨ building big ideas through play
✨ finding joy in the everyday
✨ going places, exploring our world and making memories
And through all of this, they have been learning.
Learning how to manage challenges.
Learning how to make choices.
Learning how to communicate.
Learning how to be independent.
Learning how to be part of a group.
Learning that mistakes are part of growing.
Learning to believe, “I can have a go.”
We believe the best preparation for school is a childhood full of play.
So this summer, there is no need to turn home into a classroom. Let children play, explore, talk, wonder, help, climb, create, get muddy, make mistakes and try again.
Let them carry their own bag.
Help make a picnic.
Put on their own shoes.
Order their own ice cream.
Wait for a turn.
Lose a game.
Solve a problem.
Be bored long enough to invent something wonderful.
These are the everyday moments that build the confidence, independence and resilience children will take with them into school.
