To mark World Ocean Day, our children took part in a fantastic art workshop with Kerry from Primary Art Skills. Inspired by the work of artist Jill Pelto, the children explored the impact of microplastics on our oceans and discussed why it is so important to protect marine environments.

Using watercolour techniques, the children created thoughtful artwork that highlighted the challenges facing sea life due to plastic pollution. They carefully considered how artists can use creativity to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire positive change.

We were incredibly impressed by the children’s enthusiasm, creativity and understanding of this important topic. A huge thank you to Kerry for leading such an engaging and inspiring session.

🌎💙 Together, we can all play a part in looking after our oceans for future generations.

We had a fantastic school trip to London today! The children enjoyed a visit to the Tower of London, where they saw the famous Crown Jewels, before taking the clipper boat along the River Thames to spot some of London’s iconic landmarks. We also saw the Houses of Parliament, visited the LEGO Store Leicester Square, explored the National Gallery, enjoyed an ice cream in St James’ Park and finished off with a quick wave to the King at Buckingham Palace! We then experienced travelling on the London Underground before returning to Euston for our train journey home. It was a busy but thoroughly enjoyable day, and the children were a credit to the school throughout.

Our Small and Mighty Adventurers and Explorers didn’t let the rain stop them on their adventure day!

They climbed over and under trees, discovered their very own tree slide (extra slippery thanks to the rain!), and built cosy dens for themselves and their teddies. 🐻

We are so proud of their determination, resilience and teamwork. Well done, everyone!

Another successful repair workshop with Simply Repair South Lakes! The children learned practical skills for repairing and mending clothes, including how to sew and add patches to give items a new lease of life. A great opportunity to build independence, creativity and understand the importance of reusing and caring for our belongings.

Today we enjoyed a fantastic Viking Living History afternoon! We stepped back in time and explored a Viking traveller camp, learning all about Viking tools, weapons and daily life. The children had a wonderful hands-on experience, making their own coins using a coin strike and even holding a knife discovered during a Viking excavation. They also had the chance to hold shields and swords similar to those used by Viking warriors.

Some children were even lucky enough to win Viking artefacts for their shield designs and for answering questions during the session. A brilliant afternoon of bringing history to life!

Today we’ve had a wonderful Outdoor Learning Day focused on wildflowers! 🌸🌿

The children began with a walk around our local environment to spot bluebells and other beautiful wildflowers growing around us. They showed great observation skills and curiosity as they explored nature around school. Between the showers, we spent time drawing and painting the flowers we had found, carefully looking at their colours, shapes and details.

We also enjoyed some outdoor writing, creating our own bluebell poems while sitting amongst the bluebells, inspired by The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. The children used rich vocabulary and their senses to capture the beauty of the woodland around them.

Using plant identification charts, the children worked hard to identify and name some of the wildflowers growing within our school environment. Later, they enjoyed having a go at the Japanese dyeing technique Hapa Zome, using flowers and leaves to create patterns on calico fabric.

Some of our Explorers and Discoverers then took their learning even further by transforming their decorated calico into textile projects such as bookmarks, purses and pillowcases, using a range of sewing techniques they have learned throughout the year.

What an amazing day for our Adventurers and Explorers at Bertie’s Farm! 🚜🐑🌾

The children had a fantastic time enjoying a tractor ride, feeding the cows and lambs, collecting eggs, exploring the polytunnels and watching an incredible sheepdog show. It was a fun-filled day packed with hands-on learning, smiles and unforgettable experiences.

A huge thank you to everyone at the farm for such a wonderful visit! 🐄🥚🐑
