Keele SCR (Staff Common Room) What is the Staff Common Room? The SCR is your organisation, and you can make as much or as little of it as you like.

The SCR is a club which exists to unite the current and retired staff of Keele University and promote the spirit of community within the University, by arranging activities, providing social space and a structure for members to meet. The SCR is a club which exists to unite the current and retired staff of Keele University and promote the vital spirit of community within the University, by arranging activities, providing a dedicated social space for members, and simply offering a structure within which members can meet each other. Membership is open to all full-time and part-time staff paid on national scales, both academic and non-academic, and brings with it the opportunity to participate in the SCR's social activities, elections and meetings, as well as the right to use its suite of rooms and bar. It is open to all staff, academic or not, and needs your support in order to survive. We have just decided that in future our name is Staff Common Room, following a survey of members and others, dropping the old term "Senior".

Please be warmly invited to the annual SCR 'New Starters Buffet', in the University Common Room, in Keele Hall. Wednesday 21st October. We'll be in and around the room 12-2, and the buffet lunch will be served from 12.30.

All current members are welcome to attend, have a bite to eat, and meet some of the new members of staff joining us at Keele this year! We'll have the bar open for alcoholic and soft drinks; coffee is provided with the lunch. First drink free for new staff (since October last year.)

The bar is also open tonight - Wednesday 14th - with Ben & Bev hosting. 5.30-10pm.

It's another Friday, and another Friday night bar. Your hosts tonight are Joe and Adam from Astrophysics, which means there'll be a run on the c***r.

From 5.30pm, as usual. Look out for the new doorbell arrangement, if you didn't spot it last week.

Several of you have requested over the years that we open the SCR bar in the week: we know many Keele staff live elsewhere and go home at the weekends. We've had a chat as a committee and have decided to run a Wednesday night bar this semester, and if it proves a popular night, we'll keep doing so!

This coming Wednesday will be the first.

Wednesday 30 September, 5.30-10pm.
Ben Warren, Bev Newton and Chris Murphy will be your hosts.

Friday night bars will run as usual 🙂

Dear wonderful SCR members,

Welcome back to another semester, and the beginning of much activity!

The bar will be open this week - Friday 25th - from 5.30pm. Come join us for a drink or two to celebrate a successful intro week.

We are also planning another SCR ramble. Our Master of the Rambles, Dr Kelcey Swain and Dr Rachel Bright have put an itinerary together for us.

We walk downhill to the parking lot of Beeston Castle (English Heritage) which is pretty much exactly halfway, where there is a cafe and toilets and space for people to have a break, then we circle back to the pub. A map is attached.

We now have the (generously numerous!) list of wines for Monday. Prices are their list ones, we will be able to buy at 5% off from the tasting - so prices will be as follows:

We are glad to confirm the Tasting at Hourlier Wines is going ahead, as bookings are just sufficient. Because of this it is not too late to book as well, leaving Keele by coach at 1 pm on Monday 29th June. If more book, the price for coach travel drops with each one. (1 more booking would reduce the coach cost by about £2 for instance, and so on.) The cost is currently £30 per head for coach travel only, no cost for wines, plus £15 for the buffet. This is more than we hoped, but not yet final. I will advise the final cost before we go to those booked so they can either pay Stephen on the day, or make a transfer to the SCR account (preferred). If you'd like to join us but are put off by the cost, ask some friends to book too!
