Join us at Keele for this year’s Reginald Haggar Lecture, presented by long-standing Antiques Roadshow expert Paul Atterbury.

Paul will explore the remarkable history of the art schools of the Potteries, and the world-renowned ceramic designers who trained there. From the much-loved ‘Pottery Ladies’ - Charlotte Rhead, Susie Cooper and Clarice Cliff - to the educators who inspired generations, the free-to-attend lecture will highlight the people and places that put the Potteries on the world map.

The lecture celebrates Reginald Haggar’s own contribution to art and design education and is a collaboration between the Reginald Haggar Lecture Fund, Arts Keele and the Northern Ceramic Society, with support from the Raymond Williams Foundation to help keep the event free to attend.

We’re very proud to see Keele students and staff featuring on a prestigious list supported by the Attorney General, recognising their work offering free legal assistance to those in need.

The Pro Bono Recognition and Student Clinical Legal Education Recognition (CLE) Lists, supported by the Attorney General's Pro Bono Committee, are published to honour and celebrate the legal professionals and students who have volunteered 25 hours or more over the past year to offer free legal assistance to those in need.

The 2026 CLE list features no fewer than 41 Keele students who have volunteered with CLOCK, founded and led by Dr Jane Krishnadas, as well as the Legal Advice Clinics, and Citizens Advice, while Keele’s Supervising Solicitor, Sarah Askey, also featured on the Pro Bono Recognition List of England and Wales.

The Student CLE List celebrates law students across England and Wales who have volunteered 25 hours or more either through their law school clinic to provide free legal advice, the CLOCK.uk.net programme or through a placement with Citizens Advice to provide assistance to vulnerable litigants in person; individuals, charities or community groups.

Jo Meakin, Operations Co-ordinator for CLOCK, said: “We are immensely grateful for the commitment, compassion, and hard work that our students bring to CLOCK and our clinics. Alongside their academic studies, they generously volunteer their time to support members of our community, helping individuals navigate often challenging situations and providing invaluable assistance to those who need it most.”

🌍 From Keele to the world stage.

Congratulations to Keele student Spencer Cartwright, who finished eighth in the world in his age group at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Spain - and was the first British athlete across the line in his race!

The final-year Sports Business Management student also recorded the second-fastest swim split in his age group, balancing 15 to 18 hours of training each week alongside his studies.

And after discovering his bike had been damaged on arrival in Spain, Spencer had to borrow one to compete - making his achievement even more impressive.

Huge congratulations to Keele’s Dr Clare Pheasey, who has received a prestigious fellowship from the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (CASES), the leading professional body for sport and exercise scientists in the UK.

Dr Pheasey has been named a Fellow of CASES in recognition of her sustained contribution to the profession through education, professional practice, research, and leadership.

Fellowship is one of the highest honours awarded by CASES and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to advancing sport and exercise sciences. It is awarded to professionals who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, and impact throughout their careers, while helping to shape and strengthen the profession for future generations.

Dr Pheasey said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive Fellowship of CASES. Having been a member of the organisation for three decades, this recognition means a great deal to me.

“I have been fortunate to work with so many talented and inspiring athletes, students, colleagues, mentors, and industry partners over the years, and this award is as much a reflection of their support, encouragement, and influence as it is of my own contribution.”

From Keele University to helping power a more sustainable railway, Keele is where it starts.

Former Keele student Aaron Yule is helping drive the transition to a lower-carbon future in his role as Decarbonisation and Energy Manager at Avanti West Coast.

Aaron leads work on energy efficiency, carbon reduction and net zero planning across the rail operator, supporting projects ranging from solar energy and heat pumps to LED upgrades and improvements to energy efficiency across the station estate.

His route into sustainability began after an undergraduate degree in Geography and a career in recruitment. Returning to Keele to study MSc Environmental Sustainability and Green Technology in 2019 gave Aaron the technical knowledge and practical experience to make the move into the sector.

“Keele gave me a strong foundation of technical knowledge, which has been invaluable in my current role, particularly in enabling me to communicate confidently with both senior directors and technical specialists. It also gave me the confidence and autonomy to take ownership of my development.”
