We are delighted to welcome Mrs Frida Mittmann to the Lathallan teaching team ๐Ÿ‘‹โœจ

Originally from Berlin and now based in northeast Scotland, Frida joins us as a Modern Foreign Languages specialist. She will predominantly teach in the Junior School while delivering French and Spanish up to National 5 level ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท

Frida brings over 10 years of experience working with young people, with a strong focus on immersive outdoor learning across beaches, forests, and wild spaces. We are just over three weeks away from our annual Lathallan Mini Highland Games on Saturday, 19th September, from 2-5pm.

Organised by Lathallan Parentsโ€™ Association alongside our fantastic Class Reps, the afternoon promises plenty of family fun, stalls, and delicious food and drink. Our Sports Department will manage the sporting events, while the Lathallan School Pipe Band hosts their annual School-Age Solos Piping & Drumming Competition.

Teams will consist of eight children from Lathallan Junior School and visiting primary schools or local youth group (such as Scouts and Brownies), competing in two age categories - J4/J5 and J6/J7.

Lathallan Junior School pupils are invited to put their names forward at assembly on Monday, with team members drawn at random.

If you know of any external schools or clubs interested in participating, please ask them to email [email protected] by Monday, 31st August.

This is a fantastic family day, and no specialist training is required! Events will include Shot Putt, Caber Toss, Sprint, Sack Race, Tug oโ€™ War, and Woodland Dash.

If you spent time in our Sports Department last academic year, you undoubtedly crossed paths with S6 leaver Patrick in one of his many guises - whether coaching football, assisting in PE, or lacing up his own rugby boots ๐Ÿ‰โšฝ๏ธ

Itโ€™s safe to say Patrick is sports daft, so we are absolutely buzzing to hear he is heading to Abertay University to study Sports Coaching and Development.

After 13 years at Lathallan, Patrick leaves behind a fantastic legacy on and off the field. A particular highlight has been his rugby journey, playing for both the U16 and U18 teams in a single season and enjoying a final year packed with unforgettable matches and camaraderie. Beyond the pitch, tackling the Gold Duke of Edinburghโ€™s Award expedition and making memories during the S6 Lunan House Leadership Residential helped make his final years at school extra special.

Patrick has also given so much back to the school, from coaching the S1 and S2 football teams throughout the year to volunteering with the Sports Department to help run PE sessions. It couldn't be more fitting that his next step leads directly toward a career in sports coaching and development.

There is no doubt he'll bring out the best in many athletes of the future!

A long-standing tradition at Lathallan is for our Senior School pupils to walk to Benholm Kirk for our start-of-term service.

The sun was shining on Friday during the four-mile coastal walk, marking a great start to the new academic year.

๐Ÿ“ธ Thanks to Duncan (S3) for these photos from the sky and on the path with peers!

Please join us in giving a warm Lathallan welcome to Miss Smith ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ‘‹

With so many wonderful new families joining our Junior School community, we have expanded to open a second J7 class for the first time. This ensures the small class size ethos Lathallan is known for remains at the heart of what we do, keeping learning personal, dynamic, and engaging for every single pupil.

With a new class comes a fantastic new addition to our teaching staff. Mili is an exceptional educator who brings a rich breadth of experience and interests to her practice. Raised on a family farm in Perthshire, she learned early on the values of hard work, responsibility, care, commitment, and community. She is also an Olympic gold medallist curler!

We are so excited to have you on board, Mili!

The first whole-school assembly of the academic year hits different ๐ŸŒŸ

With every seat filled in the hall, our S6s on stage as they head into their final year at Lathallan and our J1s eagerly looking up to them (quite literally) from the front row on their very first day.

Row after row right to the back, packed with smiling faces, reunited friends, and excitement for the year ahead.

Our fantastic teaching team in the mix too - including many new faces ready to bring fresh ideas and inspiring energy to learning at Lathallan!

We tested the vocal pipes with a whole-school rendition of our school song โ€œHere in our castle standing by the seaโ€ฆโ€ ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿฐ๐ŸŒŠ, and Mr Toley set a challenge which raised some laughter but brought to life our school values of confidence, opportunity, respect, endeavour and modesty.

That first-day-back feeling when you see your friends after the holidays ๐Ÿฅนโœจ

There has been such a buzz around Brotherton Castle as everyone catches up, shares stories, and settles back into school.

Great catching up with returning families, welcoming new faces, and hearing all about your summer adventures near and far.

It was also the perfect vantage point to discreetly watch the children walk past the windows on their way to assembly ๐Ÿซถ

S6 leaver Dumebi will be heading to the University of Newcastle to study Mechanical Engineering ๐ŸŽ“โš™๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

Dumebi regularly performed at school events, including with the senior choir, the a ca****la choir, and a soloist at Lathallan Young Musician of the Year. Most recently, he was on stage at Presentation Day in June.

In sports, heโ€™s enjoyed training and playing with 1st XV rugby team.

Dumebi reflects on his time here, saying heโ€™ll miss boarding at Lathallan - the chance to live alongside friends and be part of such a close-knit community, not to mention waking up to sea views from the castle.

To all current Lathallians: โ€œDonโ€™t hesitate to get involved in everything!โ€
