Hi everyone - apologies for the recent cancellations. I've been at the eye hospital today and I have managed to somehow tear the skin off my cornea! All bookings for later today and tomorrow have been cancelled and I will update about Wednesday tomorrow at some point! Thank you for your understanding. Sharon

Retaining knowledge is something that many students struggle with. A topic could be covered by their teacher at the start of the school year and be well understood at the time but when it comes to exam time months later they can't recall their learning which can result in losing precious marks and potentially lower grades.

A good way to combat this is to keep revisiting previous topics during the school year. I have a bank of questions and I am able to provide knowledge check worksheets and exam type questions for students to complete and submit to me. I will then mark their work and return it to the student along with feedback and worked solutions. Prices for this service are very competitive.

Please PM me for more information regarding this service or for help with anything else.

Factorising quadratic expressions is taught at National 5 level. It's a skill that students will continue to use at Higher level and beyond.

Questions can be confusing and negative numbers often cause further complications. I teach this using a method that works for all quadractics and increases students confidence in tackling these questions.

I have provided some questions and answers as a knowledge check for students to attempt.

I can provide support remotely or in person. Direct message me to arrange support with this or anything else Maths related.

The holidays are almost over and with omicron numbers being so high many students will be facing further disruption to their schooling.

Even just a few sessions of tutoring can have a positive impact for many students.

My 2022 diary is now open for bookings both online and in person. Direct message me for more information or to arrange a session.

I often compare teaching and learning maths successfully to building a wall. If the foundations are strong it's much easier to build on, if there are any "missing bricks" at the lower levels then things quickly become unstable and progress becomes very difficult. Students at this point often feel like they are trying so hard but not making any progress which results in frustration!

Due to lockdown/home learning/isolation more and more students are finding themselves in this situation, they are trying hard to master higher levels of maths when they don't have the solid foundations to build upon, often though no fault of their own. It is far more productive to identify any "missing bricks" in their maths wall and fix them rather than continuing to try and build an unstable wall higher.

Many students who are working towards their Scottish Higher have quite a few "missing bricks" in their algebra skills. They understand the Scottish Higher level maths but they dont have the algebra "bricks" in the lower levels of their maths wall which means they make mistakes and lose marks. Students often dont understand where they are going wrong and quickly become frustrated, disengaged and anxious about their maths.

Direct message me for more information on tutoring or online support.

Pythagoras Therom is typically taught at National Four level. It is however essential that students fully understand and are confident using this theorm as it is often required for National Five and Higher level questions. It is therefore very important that all students master Pythagoras to ensure that they dont throw away marks in their exam. Direct message me to arrange support with this or anything else.
