Ofsted Big Conversation

Ofsted Big Conversation The Ofsted Big Conversation is a grassroots movement of early years providers working together to be a voice for the sector

Ofsted Big Conversation - is a grassroots organisation comprising of early years practitioners and professionals who first came together in 2014 to challenge inconsistencies and concerns regarding Ofsted’s inspection of early years provision. Since it’s early beginnings, this national group has continued to develop strong and meaningful partnerships with Ofsted and the sector in order to bri

ng about positive change and facilitate continued dialogue between registered early settings and Ofsted. This open and public page provides the following:

• A means of providing information about all regional group meetings with Ofsted

• Links to book places on regular open events across England

• Opportunities for the sector to receive important information from Ofsted and / or the Government in relation to early years practice and inspection

• A means by which regional chairs can support on-going communication between providers and Ofsted

Please note that those who manage this page will do their best to reply and address any issues raised on the page. They do this in a voluntary capacity. Whilst we ( chairs) often pass on issues raised from the sector via the page to Ofsted, any concerns, communications with and / or direct messages for Ofsted should follow the correct direct procedures and processes. We encourage you to stay connected with us through this page and encourage others to join us in the Ofsted Big Conversation.

• What’s a planning call? And what will my inspector want to talk about?
• How does case sampling work during inspections? Do I have to prepare anything beforehand?
• What can I expect when I’m inspected? How have inspections changed?
• What’s this demographic portal everyone’s talking about and how do I access it?
• If there’s going to be a greater focus on self-evaluation, do I need to be writing more down?

These are just some of the questions Ofsted will be answering at our next OBC event on 22nd Oct.
Ofsted’s initial round of webinars helped us to understand the headline changes, but we’re now welcoming the opportunity to delve deeper into what it will be like to be inspected under the new inspection framework.

Everyone is welcome and if you can’t join this virtual event on 22nd, you’ll be able to access a recording.
Best wishes
The EMOBC Steering Group

Ofsted’s webinars

Ofsted’s engagement programme has been warmly received, and the information shared has prompted thoughtful reflection across the sector. Many providers have had time to think about what was shared and are now eager to deepen their understanding and to continue the dialogue.

The East Midlands Big Conversation offers a timely and trusted space for that exchange.

Our upcoming event on 22nd October will focus on the inspection changes and provide a valuable opportunity for providers to pose questions directly to Ofsted, supporting greater clarity and understanding.

Today members of the NWOBC steering committee met with Ofsted for a presentation of the guiding principles of the renewed inspection framework. This was a valuable opportunity for the NWOBC to ask questions and share our reflections. We will share the minutes of this meeting soon.

In the meantime Ofsted asked if we could share the following :

Ofsted are seeking volunteer early years settings to take part in a pilot ahead of the start of inspections under the renewed framework in November.

These pilots will enable you to have an early experience of the new framework.

Key dates
You must be able to accommodate a pilot between mid-September and end of October.
Not have had an inspection within the last 6 months

If you are interested and able to take part contact [email protected] quoting ‘EY inspection pilots’ in the subject line by Monday 22 September.

Please be aware that volunteering does not automatically mean a pilot will take place at your setting.
