The majority of cardiac arrests start with a fast, unusual rhythm called ventricular fibrillation (VF).
And there is only ONE thing that can treat it effectively: a defibrillator.
Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) aren’t just “nice to have”.
They analyse the heart.
They decide if the heart rhythm is shockable.
They deliver the controlled electrical shock that can end VF.
And timing is everything.
The delay from collapse to first shock is the single biggest factor in survival.
👉 Deliver a shock quickly and survival can be as high as 70%.
For every minute without CPR and defibrillation, survival drops by 10%.
CPR helps keep the rhythm shockable — but it cannot fix the problem on its own.
This is why having an AED on site — and a team who actually know how to use it — changes outcomes.
They reduce hesitation.
They reduce treatment time.
They give someone a real chance.
AEDs are now cost‑effective, widely available, and simple to maintain.
But confidence doesn’t come from owning one.
It comes from training.
If your workplace, school, club or community wants to be ready — truly ready — that’s where my courses come in.
Because the device can save a life.
Isn't it just wonderful when you get a great customer review?

I had the pleasure of delivering an Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Save an Adult's Life Course this week at the Innovation Centre at the University of Essex.
It was a really useful session for the group, as none of them had current first aid qualifications and felt unconfident in how they would respond in an emergency.
Seeing how their confidence built over the session was great to see and shows how important it is for everyone to practice their CPR and first aid skills.
Thanks to Essex Startups for providing the training room!

Here’s the future I’m working towards.
A future where every young person in the East of England has access to a lifesaving club within reach.
A future where lifesaving isn’t hidden under so many other sports and humanitarian missions — it’s normal and present. It becomes salient in everyone’s minds, rather than being something that most people aren’t even aware exists.
A future where clubs become hubs for growth, friendship, opportunity, and, most importantly, hubs for learning important skills that could save a life one day.
And I know it won’t happen overnight. But it will happen — one course, one learner, one club at a time.
If you’ve trained with me, supported me, or even just followed along… you’re already part of that journey.
And I’m just getting started.

Someone is choking.
Most people instinctively jump straight into back blows — it feels like the right thing to do in the moment.
But here’s the part many people don’t realise:
Back blows aren’t always the first step.
If the person is still able to cough, that’s a good sign.
Coughing means air is still moving, and the body is trying to clear the blockage on its own.
👉 In this situation, the best thing you can do is encourage them to keep coughing.
It avoids unnecessary harm and gives them the chance to clear it themselves.
So when do you step in with back blows?
➡️ When the cough becomes weak or ineffective.
That’s the point where they’re no longer able to help themselves properly, and they need you to take action.
A simple distinction — but one that can make a huge difference in an emergency.

Paediatric First Aid isn’t just a qualification — it’s a responsibility to the youngest and most vulnerable in our communities.
That's why we are pleased to announce AER+ Training is now delivering courses.
These courses are focused on infants and children and are suitable for anyone working in an environment with young people. This includes early years education and much more.
Courses are 2 days (12 hours) and can be divided into 4 3-hour sessions to fit around your schedule.
You will learn the role and responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider, how to assess situations, prioritise actions, understand the contents of a first aid kit, and the importance of recording incidents.
AER+ Training is First Aid Industry Body-approved, meaning our courses are recognised by the Health and Safety Executive. Please read the following for further information:
The Department for Education and consequently OFSTED and its Inspectors recognise and accept FAIB Paediatric Qualifications as stated in the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage (Published 11 October 2024 & Effective 1 November 2024). Paragraph 3.29 Addendum 23 (Page 27) states “Providers are responsible for identifying and selecting a competent Training Provider to deliver their Paediatric First Aid. Training is available from a range of Training Providers, including: “a Training Provider that is a Member of a Trade Body with an Approval and Monitoring Scheme”
(This includes FAIB The First Aid Industry Body)

I’m on a mission to increase the number of Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK lifesaving clubs across our region, and the impact this could have is huge.
Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK lifesaving clubs are at the heart of all things lifesaving. They are at the heart of the community and teach vital lifesaving and first aid skills to people of all ages, through programmes including the Rookie Lifeguard and National Lifesaving Academy.
I’m a member of Ipswich Lifesaving Club and teach children ages 8 and over rescue, self-survival, and first aid skills through these RLSS UK programmes, and it’s incredible to see the effect it has on everyone.
From the moment they first come into the club, you see them grow in confidence, build better swimming skills, and learn important ways in which to stay safe and help in an emergency. I’ve had parents come to me and say that their child has never been so good at swimming before!
Additionally, they are on a pathway that can lead to them becoming an RLSS UK hashtag , gaining professional work that is meaningful and full of opportunities for progression.
But it doesn’t stop there. Our more competitive members make their way to lifesaving competitions both locally and nationally, battling it out for medals in various lifesaving events. These events are good fun and allow skills to be finessed.
So what does this all mean for my ambitious plan for the East of England?
· More young people will gain life-changing skills
· More opportunities for sport, community, and confidence‑building
· More pathways into rewarding careers
· A stronger, safer region
It’s going to take a long time to build, but it will be so incredible to see the impact it has on the area. I can’t wait to start investing the profits from my company into this initiative.
If you care about water safety, youth development, or building stronger communities, I’d love to connect with you.
