Year 5 Swimming Summer Term

What an incredible time we have had at swimming this term!

Throughout our lessons, we have shown fantastic resilience, collaboration and determination. Our swimming instructors were especially impressed by our excellent attitude and positive approach, and we couldn't be prouder of the way everyone represented the school.

We are delighted to share that an amazing 75% of our children achieved the Gold Award. Even more importantly, every child made progress and achieved a new swimming level during the course of the programme - a fantastic accomplishment for everyone.

Over the final two weeks, we focused on personal survival skills, helping us to develop the knowledge and confidence to stay safe in and around water.

As part of our homework, we researched the different beach safety flags that can be seen at the seaside. Six children from each class were awarded team points for the outstanding quality of their work. We've included a couple of examples to showcase the impressive depth of knowledge demonstrated.

Well done, Year 5! You have been a real credit to the school throughout your swimming lessons. We are so proud of you all!

Our Year 5/6 playleaders have worked tirelessly this year with nursery and Year 1/2 children at lunchtimes, providing them with fun activities to keep them active. In recognition of this, they were rewarded with a cooling ice pole on Wednesday.

Thank you to all our leaders who have dedicated their time throughout the year.

🌟 We would like to introduce you to Finn! 🌟

Today, Finn deservedly broke Mrs O'Connor's famous Smelly Sticker record by receiving four stickers in one day! 👏⭐ What an incredible achievement – and every single one was thoroughly deserved.

Recently, Finn showed extraordinary bravery and quick thinking while swimming with his two-year-old cousin. She was sitting at the side of the pool when she accidentally fell in and disappeared below the water. Without a moment's hesitation, Finn's instincts kicked in. He swam straight to her, pulled her back above the water, and kept her safe.

What makes this even more remarkable is that Finn acted so quickly that he reached her before an adult had even managed to jump in to help.

Finn, your courage, calmness and selfless actions are an inspiration. We couldn't be prouder of you. You are a true hero!

Well done, Finn! We are so incredibly proud of you. 💙🏅

And we have the greatest HSA!! Thank you so much for this week - we really couldn’t have got through it without you and your ice pops!! You really are the best!! 🥰

We took some children to take part in the Northampton Saints Tag Rugby Festival at Ipswich YM RFU, The Tru7 Community Rugby Ground, Ipswich. Unfortunately the event was rained off before the end, but we enjoyed playing lots of rugby and improved after every game, scoring some well worked tries!

A big thank you to Mr Nixon for his invaluable rugby knowledge and encouragement. He was an inspiration to the children!

Thank you also to the parents for transporting and supporting the children, especially in those weather conditions!

This week, our Junior Road Safety Officers led an engaging workshop with Reception pupils, who have recently been learning about how to stay safe when crossing the road.

The team organised an interactive game and presented different road safety scenarios, giving Reception children the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and discuss what they should do in various situations.

The Reception pupils impressed everyone with their excellent knowledge and enthusiasm, and they thoroughly enjoyed the session. The Junior Road Safety Officers were fantastic role models and helped make the learning experience both fun and memorable.
