Seatbelt safety in pregnancy

NHS choices advises - The seatbelt should be positioned on your shoulder, away from your neck ✅

Across your chest (between your breasts) removing any slack from the seatbelt ✅

NHS guidance states - The lap belt should be BELOW your belly so that it’s snug across the hips and pelvic bone ✅

The Royal College of Midwives supports this advice and stated over half the women in an official survey were unaware of this advice and did not realise the dangers of an incorrectly placed seatbelt

A seatbelt should NEVER be placed under your arm or behind your back ❌

The lap belt should NEVER placed over or on top of your belly ❌

Dr Karen Joash, Consultant Obstetrician at Portland Hospital, London said “it’s similar to being struck across the bump with extreme force and pressure. Major injuries can lead to the waters breaking early. It can also result in placental injuries leading to bleeding and early placental separation which reduces the oxygen supply and in extreme injuries, unfortunately the death of the unborn baby”

Before each journey take a few extra minutes to make sure you are safely strapped in, just as you would when your baby is in a car seat 🤰👶🤱🚗

This weeks theme…. FRENCH WEEK! 🇫🇷

French week is one of my favourite themes! I can’t wait to share it with you all this week! We will be singing along to Alouette, strengthening our little ones eye muscles with glow balls bouncing on our tension cloth, dancing to French music, visiting the French market with some amazing scents, ringing our bells along to Frére Jacques and finally celebrating the French national anthem!
