It's election season and even jazz is not exempt!
Nominations for the 2026 The Parliamentary Jazz Awards are now open. They close at midnight on Friday 15th May - so there's not much time. Click here for the nomination form: Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2026 https://share.google/zp82xmA6cmmUlEpPg
Last year, many of you nominated Suffolk Jazz School for an award under the Jazz Education category. Thank you.
We'd like to be nominated again for our work on jazz education (you can of course also nominate bands, performers and venues in the other categories). Here are some reasons why Suffolk Jazz School has become so successful:
Suffolk Jazz School started with a one-off short course as an experiment by George Double and Neil Bateman in 2019
Since then we've delivered eight annual four-day Spring Jazz Courses, each one for about 60 people. Hundreds of different people have attended and over 300 people have joined our emailing list. We've also run twelve day courses and workshops and numerous online workshops.
All our courses consistently receive very positive feedback with a more than 95% satisfaction score and 84% consistently giving us the highest scores.
We act on feedback to develop a continuous improvement loop.
We have carefully structured our courses to facilitate adult learning styles and have a mix of activities and different learning opportunities.
Courses are known for being friendly and inclusive and as a safe space for people to develop their skills as jazz musicians.
We attract people from far and wide, including from abroad.
People have gained hugely from our courses with many going on to join or set up jazz bands and join jazz jam sessions.
We delivered online workshops during the Covid restrictions, providing valuable work opportunities for musicians.
We give free places to young musicians or those on very low incomes to take part in our courses and several young people have used the learning to help them get places at top music colleges.
Our day courses and workshops cover a wide range of topics to complement our Spring Jazz Course and also provide opportunities for local people who can't otherwise attend the Spring Jazz Course, for example, because of family or work commitments.
