Last week, we were thrilled to participate in the Braintree Careers Fair. The event featured a wide range of employers, universities, and training providers. We had the opportunity to speak with Year 10 and 11 students from eight local schools, sharing information about pursuing a rewarding career in veterinary nursing.

Donna Green, our Exeter Liaison, attended the open day at White Lodge Vets in Exmouth on Saturday morning. The event was bustling with visitors, offering plenty of activities to showcase both the practice and its dedicated team.

''As a college, we’re committed to supporting local practices and schools by participating in events such as open days and career fairs. This gives us the opportunity to provide advice on training to become a veterinary nurse and promote the rewarding, lifelong career in veterinary nursing.'' – Karen Lee, Head of Learning and Liaison.

Last week, during the college summer break, we partnered with Lofty Heights Skills Academy to support a local charity by hosting a group of NEET students at CCOAS. One of our tutors, Sol, led an engaging session on basic animal care, where the students actively participated. The workshop included an introduction to the role of a veterinary nurse, basic first aid and a selection of practical activities. The students practiced CPR on a training dog and some were able to complete a health check on Sol’s dogs. We’re pleased to have been part of this experience and glad the students enjoyed their time with us.

Veterinary nurses at Stowe Veterinary Group, including former CCOAS students, have been instrumental in caring for three puppies that were abandoned just before Christmas. Under the leadership of head nurse and CCOAS graduate Zoe Sedgwick, the team provided essential care to nurse the puppies back to health throughout the festive period. We’re delighted to share that all three puppies are now thriving and have found their forever homes. A huge thank you and well done to everyone involved in helping these pups!

Our staff across all three sites are excited to welcome the new cohort of student veterinary nurses. The main training room in Exeter is fully set up for their Induction Day, which will take place during the last week of August.

We also look forward to welcoming back our second and third year groups in early September after their well-earned summer break.

Last week, second-year students from CCOAS Exeter were welcomed at Cave Veterinary Specialists in Wellington for a behind-the-scenes visit. They enjoyed a guided tour, conducted interviews with nurses and students, and had the opportunity to shadow the nursing team in various clinical areas.

A highlight for the students was witnessing a live CT scan and receiving a comprehensive explanation of the images. We extend our gratitude to the team at Cave Veterinary Specialists for an informative and enjoyable day for all.

We're so proud of the work that Donna Green from our Exeter centre does as a volunteer with VETERANS WITH DOGS

We're absolutely chuffed to bits to extend our heartfelt thanks to Donna Green of Central College of Animal Studies - Exeter!

Once again, Donna has generously volunteered her time and expertise to our residential training programme, delivering an invaluable session on First Aid for Dogs to our Veterans.

Donna's engaging teaching style and wealth of knowledge ensure our Veterans are well-equipped to handle potential emergencies, providing an extra layer of confidence in their partnerships with their assistance dogs.

Your continued support, Donna, makes a world of difference to our Veterans and their canine companions. We're immensely grateful to you.

🥳🎉Congratulations to our 2nd year and final year students across our three sites for their excellent exam results this week

Our 2nd years have worked hard this term with their studies in anaesthesia, theatre and perioperative care and have all passed the written exam on their first attempt.

All of our final year students also passed their final written exam on their first attempt and are working very hard towards their final practical exams. We set out a number of stations today so that they could start prepping for their OSCEs.

It’s been a busy day at the Suffolk Show. If you’re visiting for day 2, swing by our stand in the Farm 4 Futures area to bandage a dog, operate to find the dastardly sock or perform CPR.
