On Tuesday evening, our boarders took on a fantastic practical challenge for our latest 'World of Work' talk: redesigning the OBH school blazer!
We were joined by fashion designer Debi Walker, who shared insights from designing garments worn by Michelle Obama, Dua Lipa and Paralympians, as well as her time designing outerwear at ASOS, where she produced over 100 jacket designs a month! She also gave the pupils a glimpse into the global industry with stories from her travels to manufacturing sites across Europe and Asia.
Debbie offered a brilliant perspective for the children on how classroom subjects translate to professional success. Alongside her creative eye, she highlighted how vital her maths skills have been for the technical precision of pattern cutting, showing that combining technical accuracy with creative problem solving is what opens doors in any field.
To wrap up the session, the children put their own creativity to the test on the blazer challenge, resulting in some remarkably clever, detailed and thoughtful concepts!
