Old Buckenham Hall

Over the last three weeks, our pre-prep pupils have been thoroughly enjoying their study of Ocean habitats, which we recently brought to life with a fantastic Pirate Day! 🌊

Embracing a theme like this helps the children make meaningful connections between real-world knowledge and imaginative play. It has been a wonderful way for them to explore the concepts of past and present, comparing the pirates of long ago with modern boats and sailors.

This hands-on approach also beautifully supports their communication and language development, giving them the confidence to use new vocabulary and expand their storytelling skills!

Sports Day 🏆

Last Saturday brought a fantastic atmosphere to the school grounds. Our pupils competed with outstanding house spirit across multiple events, including the high jump, long jump, running races, ball throw, shot put, and a fast-paced round of final relays.

After a brilliant afternoon of close competition, Mars House claimed the ultimate victory. A special thank you to all the families who came along to cheer and enthusiastically participate in the parent races!

Scholarship Spotlight: Martha

Huge congratulations to Martha, who has been awarded both an Art Exhibition and a Sport Scholarship to Oundle School.

From her beautiful painting of a bumble bee to her impact on the sports field - notably as an exceptional cross-country runner - it is wonderful to see her diverse talents celebrated.

To have her artistic dedication recognised by alongside her sporting achievements is a fantastic result and a testament to her hard work during her time at OBH.

Our Tennis players had a phenomenal week of tennis at the Suffolk Schools Tennis Association (SSTA) finals last week.

We had 62 players represent the school throughout the SSTA season, with an amazing 54 players competing right through to finals week.

Our players performed brilliantly, securing a spectacular haul of titles and podium finishes:

Our Middle School put on a brilliant performance of Peter Pan, immersing us all into the world of Neverland.

It was a pleasure seeing such a breadth of talent on display, reflecting the dedication of the entire cast. The energy on stage was truly remarkable, and it was wonderful to see how much everyone in the audience loved it.

Huge congratulations to Molly, who has been awarded both a Drama and a Sport Scholarship to Oundle School.

While already recognised for her athletic ability and tactical influence on the cricket pitch, we are thrilled to share that Molly’s creative flair has now also been honoured with a Drama Scholarship.

Molly’s presence on the stage, most notably in her recent, captivating performance as Nancy in our production of Oliver! Jr, has been a joy to watch. To have her artistic dedication recognised by alongside her elite sporting achievements is a wonderful result.

Friday marked a major milestone for our Year 8 pupils with the release of their Common Entrance results.

Maintaining the school's long-standing academic reputation, this year's results continue that tradition. We are delighted to see our Year 8s achieve exceptionally high grades across the curriculum. These results pave the way for our 2026 graduates as they prepare to enter the nation's leading senior schools this September.

An Inspiring Day of Discovery 🧪

This week, our Year 7 pupils enjoyed a hands-on Science and Design Technology workshop day at Uppingham School. The morning kicked off in the DT department, where pupils used specialised machinery to construct their own mobile phone speaker amplifiers.

The excitement continued into the afternoon in the science department. Pupils worked methodically to extract DNA from strawberries before continuing with some jaw-dropping chemistry. From the instant color-changing magic of the iodine clock reaction to spectacular demonstrations with oxygen, our pupils were captivated.

The Great Escape 🏕️

Year 8 are currently having a fantastic time in Shropshire as part of their leavers programme!

They have been taking part in a wide range of outdoor and team-building activities. From rafting across the lake and navigating river crossings to taking on the low ropes course and the zip line, they have certainly been having lots of fun!
