So good to play the home of the bogey format!
Great Yarmouth & Caister Golf Club on the Norfolk coast.
Back in 1890 club secretary Dr. Thomas Browne invented the format of bogey that we play today, and the course sits as the oldest course in Norfolk, such rich history at this golf club.
Played in, around and thru Yarmouth Horse Racing track, it gets closed when meetings are on, as you pass thru it a few times.
At 6300 and a par 70, it’s a stern test even if 5 of the first 6 holes are par 4s that are 330 yards and less, it soon makes up for length with longer par 4s and two par 5s that push 540 Yards with no run in areas in front of one, and a tricky 2nd shot on the other, I would definitely say make your score on the front and hold on for deer life, the complete opposite of what I did today!
Iconic wooden bunkers, with steps, that are deep and hard to play out of, and must avoid.
The condition of this course was immense, I thought the tees and definition of the course was tremendous, immaculate tees with plenty of definition around them, so well looked after, greens look to of had maintenance a few weeks ago but they ran very tru! & where a pleasure to roll on.
Really enjoyed my day at Great Yarmouth & Caister Golf Club
Massive thank you to Tim & the team for the incredible hospitality, a full 18 episode was filmed mic’d up for YouTube, it’s a course I will definitely be returning to, and definitely deserves its 7th place in Norfolk officialtop100 list, behind some real crackers!
