One of the children told me the other day that ‘muddy clothes are a good thing. It’s a sign I’ve had a good day’. There is never a truer saying than that and today is testimony to that! The children noticed, with great excitement that there was an exceptionally deep puddle caused by a blockage of sticks and logs. It was too deep even for us adults to stand in! With some collaboration and resourcefulness they worked together to unblock the blockage so they could enjoy more splashing! The best days end in dirty clothes. 🥰

We had some lovely feedback from a parent this week. They gave us permission to share it...
"So our daughter comes home with muddy outer clothes without fail every week - but as she tells us “waterproofs and gloves are meant to get dirty!” What a gem of a school - getting to spend time taking in the views and relaxing, getting time to explore and get muddy with buddies. This is how children thrive - learning out and about in their environments with pupils who are also their friends. We welcome the dirty washing - evidence of a great learning environment. Thanks for being such a fabulous school."

On the last day of term we were honoured to meet one of our local farmers and his tractor! The children showed curiosity by exploring the crops and asking questions about farming life.

On Wednesday this week we took part in a whole school Chinese New Year celebration. Collaborating in teams to make Chinese dragons, being curious trying new foods and exploring the history around the Chinese New Year transitions. A lovely afternoon of learning, fun and most importantly lots of smiles! 🥢🧧🐍😍

Lego club continues to be a big success at Helmingham with over 50% of our children attending! The children work collaboratively to create fabulously creative designs, some of which are based on our Prehistoric topic. This week, they also built a duplo tower that was taller than the tallest adult!

At Helmingham we have the unique benefit of taking part in whole school topics. This term it is Prehistoric. On Friday, both classes worked together to compare and contrast the sizes of dinosaurs particularly their footprints! This was influenced by the fact that last year over 200 dinosaur footprints were found in a quarry in Oxfordshire! We decided to create our own dinosaur highway based on the discovery. The children worked in mixed age group teams to measure and create footprints on the playground and compared their own footprints to that of a dinosaur. The participation and collaboration was amazing to witness. From nursery to year 6! Just amazing! Well done Helmingham 🥰

🎬Lights, Camel, Action! ✨
Some picture’s of our children in action during our Nativity production last week. The children choose and helped direct this production and we think they did amazingly! We are exceptionally proud of their determination and participation.

We feel incredibly thankful for our beautiful Christmas tree that was donated by Helmingham Hall this year. The tree is so lovely we want it to bring as much joy to others as it has to us. We’d like to donate it onwards. If anyone knows of a worth while cause that would like our tree, please get in touch asap. It can be collected this Friday.

Lots of laughter, singing and dancing at the pantomime yesterday! The children (and staff) really enjoyed our trip to the theatre in Bury St Edmonds. The children showed a real sense of community amongst our wider school community (Henley) and were respective, active citizens amongst the audience. I’m sure there was some very tired children last night!
