Most 18-month-olds typically require around 13-14 hours of total sleep per day. Sufficient sleep is crucial for your child’s health and overall well-being, playing a vital role in learning, memory, and behaviour.

You may have already noticed how a short nap can affect the rest of the day, which is why we suggest maintaining an afternoon nap at this stage.

Children at this age should aim for at least 11 hours of night-time sleep and 2-3 hours of daytime sleep.

It’s important to remember that every child is different and their sleep needs may vary.

At 18 months old, it is beneficial for children to follow a consistent routine, which includes getting 11-12 hours of sleep during the night. It is recommended to establish a fairly regular bedtime for this age group, with most 18-month-olds going to bed between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. If your toddler is having difficulty falling asleep at bedtime, you may want to consider whether the period of wakefulness between naptime and bedtime is suitable for their age. Not having enough awake time before bed can result in extended playtime in the cot before eventually drifting off to sleep, while overtired toddlers are more likely to become upset and cry.

Awake windows during the day before nap would be 5 hours and 5.5 before bed.

Here is an example schedule for an 18 month old can look like:

Wake up- 06:00am ⏰
Nap 11:00am-1:00pm 😴
Bedtime 6:30pm 💤

5.5 hour wake window before bed to build that sleep pressure.

Any questions just ask :-)

April is C - section awareness month! Where are all my C-section mummas at!? X

My first born was an emergency C section after a 42 hour labour. My second was breach and I opted for a c section after the emergency one I had experienced before. Anyway, it didn’t go to plan and I ended up having to have a general anaesthetic. This was also during covid.

Anyway I did not have either birth go to ‘plan’ whatever that looks like! But super grateful that the NHS delivered my two babies safely.

I have definitely heard the phrase ‘too posh to push’ I don’t think anyone believes that C-sections are an easy option. The recovery is a long road.

Make sure you have lots of support around you and try and listen when they say do not lift anything during that early recovery please.

Happy to help answer any C-section questions x
However you give birth you are incredible!

Loved waking up to this email this morning.
This was helping a 3 year old with her sleep. She had continued to need support going to bed and staying in her bed. Now she loves her bed! I would call that a success! 👏🏼👍
