The Orwell Multi Academy Trust is delighted to congratulate Grace Cook Primary School on its recent Ofsted inspection, which has recognised the school as “Good” with “Outstanding” for the Early Years provision. The result is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and ambition demonstrated by the school’s leadership team, governors, staff, and pupils.

Ofsted’s report praised the school for its safe and nurturing environment, highlighting that “Pupils attending the Grace Cook Primary School enjoy a safe and caring community.” This positive atmosphere is at the heart of the school's success and is made possible by the passion and commitment of all staff members.
The report also commended the high expectations set for pupils’ behaviour, stating: “The school has high expectations for pupils’ behaviour. Pupils live up to these expectations. They model these in everything they do.” This has also enabled pupils to gain the most from the ambitious curriculum that “supports pupils to develop a wide range of knowledge in most subjects, and particularly in English and mathematics.”

The foundation for pupils’ success begins early, with the report highlighting that “Children in the Nursery and Reception receive an excellent start to their education.” This solid start is integral to ensuring children develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive as they continue their education.

Since its establishment, Ofsted recognised that Grace Cook Primary School “has developed a culture with high aspirations for its pupils. There are dedicated staff at all levels. They want pupils to build strong foundations for learning throughout their primary education.”

Mr Dedicoat, Mrs Mayes, the staff and pupils of Grace Cook Primary School should be extremely proud of this well-deserved recognition, and the Orwell Multi Academy Trust extends its heartfelt congratulations to all involved.
Alastair Heath-Robinson, CEO of the Orwell Multi Academy Trust, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the remarkable progress that Grace Cook Primary School has made since its opening in 2022. This Ofsted report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the leadership team, staff, and pupils, who have worked tirelessly to build a school with high standards and expectations. We are thrilled that Grace Cook Primary School is offering such a fantastic provision to local families and children, and we look forward to watching the school continue to grow and thrive.”

October is looking busy at Handford Hall Primary School, Ipswich

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we settle into the new school year, I'm delighted to share some of the exciting happenings at Handford Hall
Primary School. Our pupils have been diligently honing their essential skills, with a focus on confident reading,
comprehension, and building writing stamina. In mathematics, we've been reinforcing times tables knowledge
and key skills such as number bonds. Your support at home is invaluable, so please encourage your children to
practise these skills, including the use of Times Tables Rockstars.
October — Black History Month
October marks Black History Month, and this year's theme, 'Reclaiming Narratives', offers a wonderful opportunity
to highlight untold stories and histories of Black people in the UK. Rather than solely focusing on past events and
achievements, we're looking forward and exploring how we can make positive changes through action.
Throughout the month, we'll be running a series of assemblies and workshops to celebrate this important event.
October Parent Consultation Day
I'm pleased to announce our annual Parent Consultation day on Wednesday 9th October. This is a crucial opportunity for you to meet with class teachers, discuss your child's progress, and celebrate their hard work by looking through their books. You should have received letters with details of our online booking system via the Arbour
App. If you're experiencing any difficulties making an appointment, please don't hesitate to contact the school
office for assistance. We're keen to ensure all parents can participate in this valuable event.
Fab Science — Inspiring young scientists
Recently, our Year 3, 4, 5, and 6 pupils had the fantastic opportunity to participate in Fab Science workshops.
Our Year 6 pupils delved into the 'All About Me' workshop, investigating what makes us unique - from DNA and
fingerprints to visible and invisible features. This fascinating session perfectly complemented their Evolution and
Inheritance topic. Meanwhile, Year 5 pupils tackled the Construction Challenge, utilising teamwork and engineering skills to build a giant tetrahedron. This impressive 4-metre high structure was large enough to fit the entire
class inside for a photo - carefully, of course!
These workshops have been incredibly inspiring, nurturing our young scientists' curiosity and practical skills. It's
been wonderful to see our pupils so engaged and enthusiastic about their learning.
School Attendance and Punctuality
Regular attendance at school promotes pupils' well-being, maximises progress in learning and helps pupils reach
their potential. We are very proud of the achievements and progress of our pupils and are passionate about a
child's right to an education. Attendance for all children is monitored weekly with the school seeking to work in
partnership with parents to achieve above 97%.
As we continue through the term, I'm excited to see the progress our pupils will make and the new experiences
they'll encounter. Thank you for your ongoing support in your child's educational journey. Together, we're creating a vibrant and stimulating learning environment where every child can thrive.

Yours sincerely,
Mrs Blake

Here's a thought....

Dear Parents,

Will one of our children become Prime Minister of the UK? Outlandish thought or possibility? Several of our young
people, in school right now, in 30, 40, maybe 50 years’ time, may become that person. There are dozens more in
school today who have the potential, one day, to become government ministers some Members of Parliament,
debating and voting on the laws that will affect everyone. Our government is comprised of many hundreds more
who work behind the scenes from advisors, speech writers and office managers. Any number of them could be our
children.

At Brooklands we want our children to appreciate why Politics matters, the difference that it can make and why it
affects us all. Appreciating Politics is an important part of school life and this takes many forms from learning about
how many schools and hospitals there are, how much doctors and nurses are paid, what is taught in schools, how air,
seas and rivers are kept clean, how we help people with nowhere to live. Themes that might not sound like Politics
but inform us and help to form our own opinions and prepare us for later life.
Brooklands takes the view that you’re never too young to take an interest, get involved and have a voice.
Encouraging our children to be curious and ask questions. You can support your child in developing an understanding
of what matters to them and what helps them to explore and identify things that they want to improve for
themselves and others. Whether this is bringing about change in the local area, or sharing why it has been important
for them taking part in the Manningtree Mermaids campaign for safe bathing water or getting behind the Brantham
Skatepark campaign. Politics starts with a small “p”- people and a conversation.
