The language of croissantπ₯ and fillet mignonπ₯©, French is spoken worldwide by around 220 million people.π£οΈ And there are so many accents that French speakers from the southern parts of France may not even understand the ones from the north due to accents and dialects, which is interesting since they live in the same country!
Did you know that most French speakers say four twenties (4x20) instead of eighty (80)? Yupπ
, some French-speaking countries and communities thought exactly like you, βit makes no sense!βπ₯΄, so they removed the original morphology and replaced 'quatre vingts' (4x20) for 'huitante' (80).

Hello SPEAKers
Hope you have been well.
Last Friday we had a visit from Kath from Ipswich Police.
This visit shows the efforts that the local police are doing in order to reach the different communities living in Ipswich.
has been making great contacts with different local authorities to support a better understanding of the Romanian community in Ipswich.
Police officer #271 Kath, thanked us for her recent visit last Friday to our English for the Romanian session:
"I just wanted to say thank you again for having me at the English lesson and please pass on my thanks to all those who came."
Looking forward to working closely with Ipswich Police to support them on how to interact with the different communities living in Ipswich.

Hello SPEAKers
Hope you have been well.
Our Buddy had a special session this week and took her participants from our English for Ukrainians language group to
Hannah - Assistant Manager - at the library kindly showed everyone around.
Our participants did their library cards, were shown how to use the computers and how to request books/movies or music from the library.
"It was a lovely trip; the participants learnt how to log on, use the computer to make reservations; that you can download apps and access free newspapers using their library cards." - Catrina
Thank you so much to Hannah and for their support.

Hello SPEAKers
Happy Boxing Day!!
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated after Christmas Day, occurring on the second day of Christmastide (26 December). It originated as a holiday to give gifts to people in need, today Boxing Day forms part of Christmas celebrations.
It originated in the United Kingdom and is celebrated in several Commonwealth nations. The attached bank holiday or public holiday may take place on 28 December if necessary to ensure it falls on a weekday. Boxing Day is also concurrent with the Christian festival 'Saint Stephen's Day'
In parts of Europe, such as several regions of Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, and in the Republic of Ireland, 26 December is Saint Stephen's Day, which is considered the second day of Christmas.
Hope you have a good time enjoying the leftovers from Christmas Day ππ
