Just a few of the lovely text messages we’ve received today on GCSE results day.

I am just of proud of our students who went from a U to 3 as I am of those that got 9s.

GCSEs are such a stressful time, my own youngest child received their GCSE grades today so I’ve been experiencing it from both sides for the last few years!

Congratulations to every year 11 and lots of good wishes for the next step on the journey whatever that may be.

Free 8‑Week Trial for Students Who Need a Different Kind of Support 💚

We're looking for six families who need a more flexible way for their secondary‑aged students to learn. We are particularly looking for students who are struggling to engage with school or attend regularly.

We’re refining our independent‑learning service and seeking six families or schools to help shape the next stage. We want to work closely with a small group initially so we can gather feedback and shape the service before rolling it out more widely.

This 8‑week trial is completely free and anyone who takes part will also receive a discount if they choose to continue afterwards.

This service is designed for students who find in‑person or online tutoring overwhelming, and who are not currently managing school lessons, whether due to attendance difficulties, anxiety, or other barriers.

This is not tutoring, and it isn’t suitable for families looking for general academic tuition.

The service and trial supports KS3 and KS4 learners in Maths, English and Science (any combination).
Every student’s starting point begins with an initial meeting or phone call with the parent or school so we can identify priorities and tailor the support.

Over the 8 weeks, students receive:

• assigned GCSE Pod videos selected for their level and subjects
• linked questions and tasks that check understanding
• auto‑marked activities through the platform
• human‑marked for extended or written response
• a weekly summary of personalised feedback to guide next steps
• no expectation that the student engages with us

If you’d like to explore whether this could support your child, please message us. We're happy to talk through how it works.

🌿Suitable for Years 7–11
🌿Free 8‑week trial
🌿Discount for trial participants who continue
🌿Help us shape this service before full rollout

The next seven days are probably the most stressful of the summer holidays, as students and their families await A-Level and GCSE results.

But one of the best parts is receiving messages like this.

Of course, I’m proud to share them. They show prospective students and parents that the support we offer can make a real difference, and I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t part of the reason.

But, even after 23 years of teaching and tutoring, I have never stopped feeling excited about what comes next for the students I’ve worked with. Seeing their hard work pay off and hearing where they’re heading next always makes me incredibly proud for them.

Now we just need to wait for my own teens results next week! 🙃

How cool was that solar eclipse?! ☀️

We had a go at making our own pinhole camera, and were amazed that it actually worked and we could see the tiniest version of the moon’s shadow covering the sun!

We’ll definitely be making them in some of our science sessions and using them for other experiments!

Did anyone else have a go or were you slightly more prepared with eclipse glasses? 🕶️

Okay… this is WAY outside my comfort zone! 😅 I'm much happier behind the camera!

But with so many new followers, it felt like the right time to say hello 👋

I’d love to know a little about you too: where are you following from, and how did you find our page?

Who are our GCSE Science groups for?

Our Sunday group could be a good fit for your child if they:

🌿Have gaps in their understanding that are making newer topics harder
🌿 Need things explained in a different way before they really click
🌿 Lack confidence in science, even when they are more capable than they think
🌿Find a busy classroom difficult and would benefit from a smaller, calmer environment
🌿 Benefit from clear explanations, structure and time to process what they're learning

They don't need to be significantly behind or struggling with everything.

Sometimes a student simply needs somewhere they can ask the questions they didn't ask in class, go back over something they never quite understood, or have an explanation presented in a different way.

With a maximum of five students in the group, we have the flexibility to notice when someone isn't quite getting something and spend the time working out why.

The aim isn't just to get students through more science content. It's to help them understand what they're learning, build their confidence and gradually become more secure when applying that knowledge themselves 🧡

What exciting things have you been up to this weekend?!

My family has continued our series of trying new things to challenge us, and today the youngest had a go at some archery! 🏹

What better activity to practise hand-eye coordination in a completely different way that doesn’t necessarily feel like learning?

There are so many skills involved too: concentrating, remembering what you’ve been told, following a sequence, making small adjustments and then trying again. All things that come into play when we’re learning Maths, English and Science too.

It’s easy to think of learning as something that happens at a desk, but actually we’re using and developing useful skills all the time without really thinking about it.

So now I’m curious.... what have you been up to this weekend, and how could it be useful when it comes to academic subjects? 💚

One of my favourite things about running Rowan Tree Learning is the people I get to meet along the way, people who genuinely care about children and want to make life a little easier for families.

Recently I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Yvonne Harrop, who runs Harrop Education in Kent. Yvonne’s background as a school SENDCo and Specialist Resource Provision Lead means she’s worked closely with children with SEND for many years, and you can feel that experience in the way she talks about her work.

What I’ve loved is discovering how much our approaches overlap. We both see children as individuals first, not checklists or labels. We both know that confidence and wellbeing sit right at the centre of learning. And we both spend a lot of time helping families make sense of what their child needs and where to start.

Our services are different, but our values line up beautifully. At the heart of it all, we both want children to feel understood, supported, and able to grow in a way that feels right for them.

It’s been genuinely lovely learning more about what Yvonne does, and I know many parents would find her insight reassuring, especially if they’re feeling unsure about SEND or what steps to take next.

If you’d like to explore her work, you can get in touch with Harrop Education directly. 💛

Not every child is in a position to attend tutoring sessions or engage directly with a tutor, but that doesn't mean they can't be supported 🧡

At Rowan Tree Learning, we can provide personalised work for children and young people to complete independently at home. There is no expectation that they attend a lesson, join an online session or communicate with us if they are not comfortable doing so. Everything can be managed through parents.

We always start by discussing your child's current needs, strengths and any areas you would like us to focus on, and then we can prepare online work that is appropriate for both their academic level and their individual circumstances for them to be able to complete without ever having to interact with us if they don't want to. We can also provide feedback to parents along with any recommendations or adjustments for future work.

This approach gives families access to tailored educational support in a way that works for their child, whether that is for a short period or as an ongoing arrangement.

Every child learns differently, and we believe the support they receive should reflect that. Sometimes the right support is face to face, sometimes it's online, and sometimes it's simply providing the right work, at the right level, for a child to complete in their own time and in their own space 💚
