We, in the primary school, help to develop and build the educational foundations upon which your child will develop his or her future. In our school, we see ourselves in partnership with you in the education of your children, working together to develop your child to the best of his or her potential. We see your child approximately only 1,000 hours in a year, while they are in your or other care f
or over 7,000 hours. You, therefore, are the senior partners in contributing to your child’s overall development. The school building has three classrooms, a resource room, and a large hall which is also used as a dining area. High quality school meals are cooked on the premises. We are fortunate to have a large playground where the children can enjoy themselves, under supervision, at intervals and lunch times. As we are a rural school with relatively small numbers of children, pupils are taught in composite classes, e.g. P1, P2 and P3 pupils may share the same teaching area. We adopt group, individual, and whole class methods in all classes to ensure that the quality of learning and teaching of the curriculum remains at a high standard. The needs of the individual children are well served in the caring, supportive atmosphere which we foster in our school. Throughout the school, we aim to ensure that all areas are equipped with modern teaching facilities appropriate to the curriculum. Of course, no school ever has enough money for all its needs and wants. We do, however, have very supportive parents, both individually and collectively. The Parent Council is proving to be a valuable support to pupils, staff and parents. It now includes a fund-raising group, formerly the PTA, which was consistently successful in financial terms and as a source of parent helpers. The school staff are committed to working together as a team to provide the best possible service within the available resources. They attend numerous in-service and training courses to ensure the delivery of a modern, dynamic curriculum for all the pupils. The school is also used by community education for gymnastics and occasionally by other groups. This use is welcomed, because the school is then seen as an important resource within the local wider community. Problems may occur in any organisation. Together we will try to find an answer. Remember, we promise, not to believe, without question, all that your children tell us about home, if you don’t believe, without question, all that they tell you about school!
