🐉🧧 Celebrating Chinese New Year at Lisa Anderson Childminding 🧧🐉

We have had a lovely time celebrating Chinese New Year through fun, hands-on learning and play!
The children explored a themed sensory tray filled with coloured rice, money envelopes, scoops, and chopsticks 🥢✨

What looked like simple play was actually supporting fine motor skills, coordination, and concentration as little hands scooped, poured, picked up, and explored.

We also got creative with:
🎨 Stamps, paint, and stencils
🧾 Themed activity sheets
✂️ Crafts inspired by the celebration

To make the experience even more special, we enjoyed some themed snacks including fortune cookies and prawn crackers 🥠

Celebrating different cultures helps children learn about the world around them, encourages curiosity, and promotes inclusion in a fun and meaningful way 🌏❤️

Through sensory play, crafts, and shared experiences, the children were developing:
✨ Creativity
✨ Fine motor skills
✨ Cultural awareness
✨ Language and communication

A wonderful week full of exploration, learning through play, and new experiences!

✏️ A Pencil Grasp Isn’t Built Just at the Table… It’s Built Through Play!

It might look like simple fun —

🧗 Climbing
🫶 Squeezing playdough
✂️ Tearing paper
🤏 Pinching small objects
🧺 Using pegs and clothespins
🌈 Exploring colour rice and magic sand

But behind the scenes, something very important is happening!

These playful activities are strengthening the small muscles in children’s hands and fingers, developing coordination, control, and confidence 💪

Before a child can hold a pencil comfortably, their hands need to be strong, steady, and ready. That strength doesn’t come from worksheets — it grows through hands-on play, exploration, and everyday experiences.

Through play, children are naturally developing:

🖐️ Fine motor skills
🎯 Hand-eye coordination
🧠 Focus and concentration
✍️ The foundations for writing

So when you see little hands busy playing, squeezing, and exploring… they are actually preparing for writing in the most meaningful way ✨
Here at Lisa Anderson Childminding, I support learning through play every day, helping little hands grow strong, capable, and ready for the future 🌟

🧩✨ Learning Through Play – It’s More Than Just Play! ✨🧩

To an adult, it might look like:

🧸 Playing with toys
🪵 Building with blocks
🎨 Making a mess with paint
🗣️ Lots of chatting and laughter

But what is actually happening is something amazing…

💡 Problem solving – figuring out how things fit, stack, and work
🗨️ Language development – learning new words through conversation and storytelling
🤝 Social skills – sharing, turn-taking, and building friendships
🎯 Concentration – focusing on tasks and seeing them through
🧠 Creativity & imagination – turning simple play into big adventures
💪 Fine & gross motor skills – strengthening little hands and bodies through active play

Every activity, no matter how small it looks, supports children’s development in meaningful ways. Whether they are exploring outdoors, role playing, building, or getting creative, they are constantly learning new skills without even realising it 🌿🎨

Here at Lisa Anderson Childminding, I follow the children’s interests and provide a warm, nurturing environment where learning happens naturally through play, exploration, and everyday experiences 💛

Because when children play, they are learning for life 🌈

🌿🐾 Outdoor Adventures at the Wetlands & Woodland Walk 🐾🌿

Today we enjoyed a lovely outdoor adventure with Mabel the dog 🐶💛 as we explored the wetlands and woodland area.

The children had a wonderful time discovering the wooden animal carvings 🦉, collecting lots of sticks, and spotting the little river along our walk. There was plenty of running, exploring, chatting, and storytelling along the way — a perfect mix of fresh air, exercise, and imagination 🌳✨

Outdoor play is so important for children’s development. It helps build confidence, encourages curiosity, and supports physical wellbeing while allowing little ones to learn through real-life experiences 🌈

I love getting out into nature, following the children’s interests, and turning simple walks into exciting learning adventures 🧸📚

🖐️✨ Funky Fingers Fun at Lisa Anderson Childminding ✨🖐️

Fine motor skills are such an important part of early childhood development, and I love making them fun! Through playful “funky fingers” activities, children strengthen the small muscles in their hands and fingers which supports writing, self-care skills, and overall independence.

Here at Lisa Anderson Childminding, I regularly enjoy hands-on activities such as playdough rolling and squeezing, peg washing on the line, tweezers to rescue animals, and using tongs to pick up pom poms. We also explore hole punching, spray bottle water play, and screwing and unscrewing nuts and bolts — all through play-based learning that keeps little hands busy and engaged.

These activities help to develop:
🌟 Hand strength
🌟 Coordination and control
🌟 Concentration and problem-solving
🌟 Early writing readiness

Learning through play is at the heart of everything we do, and it’s wonderful to see the children building confidence while having so much fun!
