We are delighted to share some fantastic news from a group of our S2 pupils!
Over the past 6 weeks, Miss Morrison has been working with some of our S2 pupils in the Circular Economy Challenge – a project where they design and develop a sustainable product or service. Their hard work, creativity and teamwork have paid off as they won 1st place!
They created a company called, “Zip Tide”, and a product called “The Second Wave Zip”, with the brilliant slogan “Closing the Zip on Plastic.”
The product is a small, practical device designed to fix broken zips quickly and easily - helping to extend the life of clothing and bags instead of throwing them away. The product is also made from recycled plastic from the ocean, helping to:
• Reduce plastic pollution.
• Protect marine life.
• Cut down on landfill waste.
• Promote a more sustainable and cost-effective way of living.
Sonny Tracey, Rhona Mae Duguid, Summer McClurg, Lucy Shields and Mikey Cook delivered the final pitch at UHI Centre for Life Sciences on Wednesday 18th March. However, the entire class played a vital role in creating a detailed and professional business plan - which was shared with the panel.
Their presentation was not only informative but incredibly creative and engaging. From Mikey’s self-written rap to the team’s confident delivery and thoughtful responses to questions, they demonstrated a real understanding of both their product and the wider concept of The Circular Economy.
We are so proud of every single pupil involved - they were a true credit to the school and represented Inverness High School brilliantly!
A huge thank you must also go to our PSAs, Mhairi Neilson and Alice Shering, for their continued support throughout the project. They helped create such a positive and encouraging environment for the pupils to thrive. We would also like to thank Joan Duncan, our Careers Advisor, who has been fantastic from start to finish. Her leadership of the Group Career Guidance sessions made a real impact. It has been wonderful to see so many pupils grow in confidence.
Well done again to everyone involved - what a brilliant achievement! 😊

Yesterday we had the lovely Onyi in from The African Cart to deliver a cook along with our S3 pupils. They made a delicious Jollof Rice with chicken and plantain. It was great to see the pupils get involved and learn about different ingredients often used in different cultures. No on in the room has ever tried plantain so it was great to see all the pupils trying something new!
Thank you for coming Onyi and spending time in our classroom, its invaluable to our young people to meet young creative entrepreneurs like yourself. Truly Inspiring!

To support the 'Improving sleep for pupils' program the Planet Youth team ran a session for parents and carers which we recorded. You may wish to share this with the parents and carers in your school. Perfect timing with World Sleep day being tomorrow.
The recording of the parent and carer session 'Supporting adolescent children to have better sleep routines' is now available to watch on The Parent Hub: The Parent Hub - Planet Youth Highland | NHS Highland Engagement Hub

Last week we had a visit from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland 🎭 🎶 they did a workshop looking at different art and creativity within the community, to promote their new course in community arts.
It was great to hear our young people talk with such passion about where they want their chosen art form to take them in the future. Well done guys for being so engaged and open with our visitors! 🫶🏻

🎉 Inverness High School Bingo Night – Thank You! 🎉
What a fantastic evening we had at our IHS Bingo Night last night! A huge thank you to everyone who came along, played, laughed, and supported the event. Thanks to your generosity, we amazingly raised over £1,100 for the school fund! 👏
The night was full of fun with plenty of bingo excitement, a brilliant raffle, and a lively game of Heads or Tails that had everyone on their feet.
Events like this are a great reminder of UNCRC Article 31 – every child has the right to relax, play and take part in fun activities and it was wonderful to see our school community coming together to support opportunities like this for our pupils.
We would also like to say a massive thank you to the very generous businesses who donated prizes and helped make the evening such a success:
Spar
Springfield Homes
Highlife Highland
Highland Wildlife Park
Landmark
Inverness Crazy Golf
Therapy Suite
Culloden Battlefield
Inverness Leisure
Cawdor Castle
The Drawing Room
A and I Quality Butchers
Harry Gow Bakery
Tesco
Poundland
Clachnacuddin F.C.
Ross County F.C.
The Loft-Hair Studio
Lumos
Your support means so much to our school community.
Finally, thank you again to all the students and school staff who helped organise the night and to everyone who attended and supported the event. We couldn’t do it without you! 💙

We then welcomed P7 pupils from Central Primary into the Home Economics department as part of their transition visits. They made raspberry and white chocolate muffins and did a great job following the recipe and measuring ingredients. It was a great opportunity for them to get a feel for what Home Economics is like at Inverness High School.

We had Solo Film Crew from Glasgow in school this morning to film a short case study showing how Experiential Career Learning and Group Career Coaching help young people connect their learning to the world of work and build skills and confidence when working within a team.
The pupils have done a fantastic job so far and have put a huge amount of effort into developing both their pitch and their business plan. A big thank you also goes to Joan from SDS, who has been a huge support to the pupils by leading the group career coaching sessions, and to Darren from Balfour Beatty, who has visited the school twice to speak with the pupils about career pathways and to help guide them in developing their business plan.

Sonny Tracey S2 trains with Inverness Harriers. At the weekend, he competed in the 200m indoor race for his age group at the Emirates Stadium in Glasgow. Sonny knocked 1.5 seconds off his Personal Best which is a fantastic achievement! We are all very proud of him.
