Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Rhona Morrison from Glasgow Caledonian University to Culloden Academy for two engaging and thought-provoking workshops on Risk Management.

Our Higher Business Studies students explored how businesses identify and manage risk, with discussions ranging from the impact of social media and celebrity endorsements to the consequences of getting things wrong in the public eye.

It was fantastic to see the students sharing their ideas, asking insightful questions, and applying their learning to real-world business scenarios.

A huge thank you to Rhona for delivering such an interactive and relevant session and helping our young people gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing businesses today. 👏

Poppy Scotland Bud Bus
To accompany our unit on the First World War, our S3 historians visited Poppy Scotland's travelling 'Bud' museum which discusses the work of Poppy Scotland and the importance of remembrance after the First World War. Pupils 'clocked into' the travelling poppy factory, and made their own poppies, as a souvenir of the bus's visit.

Scotland Colours!!

On the back of our previous post, this weekend is Matchday 1 for Scotland so we want to encourage as many people as possible to wear in their Scotland jerseys (or jerseys of their qualified nation - sorry Mr Weafer & Mrs McGonigal!) tomorrow to celebrate the start of the tournament.

With the World Cup starting today, we have decided to create an interdisciplinary learning experience for the pupils to encourage them to celebrate the cultures from all of the countries taking part and, of course, to cheer on Scotland. The S2 - S5 tutor groups have been each been allocated a country and on the day their team plays matches, can wear the colours of their countries flag. We are also asking them to learn a few words of their country's language, for example hello, goodbye, please and thank you. This will be easier for some tutor groups than others! There will be prizes after the group stages for the team which scored the most goals, the team which had the most goals scored against them and also the team with the most red/yellow cards. Next term, there will be a prize for the tutor group with the winning team. On Scotland match days, the whole school can dress in Scottish colours to support our National team.
Please see the school website for a list of dates and tutor classes involved for all the different matches. We're hoping that this way our pupils can learn from as well as enjoy what is sure to be a great sporting competition. We're also hoping that it won't be 28 years until we can celebrate Scotland being in the world cup again.

Iceland 2026

That is everyone back on Scottish soil. Our highlights over the last 2 days included: The Secret Lagoon, Gulfoss Waterfall, Kerid Crater and a live lava show in Reykjavik. The pupils also had a few hours to explore Reykjavik by thenselves.
Everyone has been really well behaved and a credit to the school and their families. We hope the pupils have had a fantastic time and seen some things they'll never forget. We have just left on the bus and are hoping to be at Culloden Academy for just after 4pm.

Iceland Day 2

We had an amazing day yesterday. We walked on the Sólheimajökull glacier - an incredible experience that photos don't really do justice to. We stopped at Vik - the southern most town in Iceland - to see the black beach. Famous for its sneaker waves, basalt rick formation and being used as a location for Game of Thrones.

Then we visited 3 spectacular waterfalls where everyone sacraficed being dry to get some fantastic photos.
We're chilling out at the Secret Lagoon this morning before a day of exploring Iceland's Golden Circle.

Iceland 2026

We arrived in Iceland after a LONG day of travelling- beginning at 00:45am this morning. We are also anticipating about 3 hours of darkness tonight! The pupils have been fantastic and we've seen some great things. The Lava Tunnel was a particular highlight. More photos to follow tomorrow when we go for our Glacier Walk 😃
