📚 The mechanism of pigment absorption when spraying cosmetic tattoo (PMU) into the skin:
In cosmetic tattooing, color pigment is introduced into the epidermis and dermis of the skin using a specialized cosmetic tattoo machine.

😉This process takes place according to the following principles:
1. The needle touches the skin
• The PMU needle moves in an oscillating or linear motion, creating controlled small wounds (microtrauma) on the skin surface.
• The needle depth can vary from 0.2 to 1.0 mm, depending on the technique and skin area.
2. The pigment is retained in the skin
• After passing through the stratum corneum, the pigment is mainly located in the epidermis and papilla layer of the dermis.
• The size and morphology of the pigment particles affect the durability of the color.
☝🏼 Larger ink molecules will stay in the skin longer, while smaller ink molecules will be quickly broken down by macrophages.

• If the needle goes too deep into the dermis, it can lead to ink diffusion or blurred edges.

3. The body's biological response
• After tattooing, the immune system recognizes the pigment particles as foreign objects and triggers an acute inflammatory response.

• Macrophages and neutrophils move to the tattooed area to digest or break down the pigment.

• Stable pigments will be surrounded by collagen fibers and fibroblasts, helping them adhere and maintain in the skin for a long time.

🫵🏻Causes of allergic reactions to cosmetic tattoo colors
Allergic reactions can be caused by many factors:
1. Chemical structure of the pigment
• Some pigments may contain metal oxides such as iron oxide (Fe₂O₃), nickel (Ni), mercury (Hg) or chromium (Cr), which can cause allergies in sensitive people.
• Organic pigments can cross-react with other chemicals in cosmetics or hair dyes.
2. Individual immune reactions
• People with sensitive skin may react strongly to ingredients in PMU pigments.
• Allergic contact dermatitis or photoallergic reactions may occur when the pigment is altered by sunlight or laser.
3. Preservatives and additives in pigments
• Some pigments may contain parabens, formaldehyde or isothiazolinone – these substances can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.
• Solvents such as glycerin, ethanol or propylene glycol can also be allergens.

4. Using colors of unknown origin or poor quality
• Substandard or untested colors may contain impurities, bacteria or unstable chemical compounds, causing chronic inflammation or granulomas.

✅Important measures to prevent allergic reactions when doing PMU
1. Use high-quality and certified pigments
• PMU colors should be REACH certified (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) or FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved.
• Pigments containing heavy metals or unstable synthetic pigments should be avoided.
2. Strictly follow hygiene and sterilization regulations
• Only use sterile disposable needles to avoid infection.
• The work area must be clean and all instruments must be sterilized according to medical standards.
3. Provide proper post-tattoo care instructions to clients
• After tattooing, the treatment area should not be exposed to water, cosmetics containing alcohol or strong detergents.

• Avoid exposure to sunlight to avoid discoloration or irritation.

• Use special care products to support the wound healing process and reduce the risk of infection.
