This folk fiddle workshop looks good! Any of my early book 1 pupils would find this fun.
🎻 FIDDLE WORKSHOP 🎻
Have you started learning to play the violin?
Wondering if fiddle playing is any different?
Why not come along and join in our workshop with Rachel Campbell on Saturday 14th March at 2.30-3.30pm.
You need to bring a violin. You only need to have had a few lessons, but you do need to know how to hold a violin and bow and play a few notes or a simple tune. Rachel will teach a Scottish tune for beginners by ear - you don’t need to read music.
Book by emailing: [email protected] or via the syllabus link to Play and Perform on our website.
Cost: £2
If you have any questions, just get in touch! 🙂🎵

This is absolutely correct - that there is no such thing as 'natural talent'. There is only repetition and exposure.
Learning a musical instrument is so beneficial to a child, in all aspects of their lives. It spreads into so many other areas, like their academic studies, their confidence, and their belief in themselves to stick at something, and get better!
Some breakthroughs feel small at first, yet they quietly reshape the entire path of a child’s future. This is one of them.
New research now highlights something remarkable. Children who receive steady, ongoing music lessons do more than learn rhythm or melody. Their brains actually grow stronger in ways that influence memory, problem solving, language development, and long-term learning. The impact goes far beyond the music room and reaches into every corner of their cognitive world.
Scientists explain that music training activates multiple regions of the brain at once. When a child practices even simple notes, the brain forms new neural pathways that support focus and sharper thinking. This cross-communication boosts processing speed, helping kids absorb information faster and recall it more easily. Over time, this steady mental exercise can translate into measurable increases in IQ, especially when the lessons are consistent and long term.
The process is not limited to natural talent. What truly matters is repetition, exposure, and the emotional engagement music naturally brings. Children develop discipline from practice, patience from learning technique, and confidence from improvement. Each of these skills contributes to healthier brain development and stronger academic performance.
For parents, the takeaway is simple. You do not need expensive instruments or formal studios. Even low-cost music programs, regular listening sessions, or guided online lessons can support the same cognitive benefits. What counts most is consistency and enjoyment. When children feel joy in learning music, their brain responds with even more growth.
In a world filled with endless distractions, music offers children a powerful tool to sharpen their minds, strengthen emotional balance, and shape a brighter future. A small habit today can become a lifelong advantage tomorrow.

"Practise music you know every day and you will soon appreciate that your new repertoire becomes more fluent and easier to learn."
Here's a new article by a very experienced Suzuki teacher, on why repeating all the tunes you already know, over and over, is so important:

If your child plays their review tunes every day, then the new tunes will be easy!
Opinion: The importance of repetition in teaching
In the practice of teaching, the value and beauty of repetition must always be encouraged, says violinist and pioneering Suzuki pedagogue Helen Brunner
