This beautiful song is in Lithuanian and is called Dėl žalio žolyno. Here, the first few verses are sung by our friend Viltė Ambrazaitytė who visited A' Ghàidhealtachd (the Scottish Highlands) recently.
Whenever we meet other singers, we always end up singing together. This is cèilidh culture (sharing music, song, dance, stories, crafts with family and friends). This short cèilidh took place in .

San sgeulachd seo ionnsaichidh sinn mu dheidhinn sìthiche a thuiteas ann an gaol le nighean nuair a tha e a’ buain na rannaich. Cha do mhair an dàimh, oir chuir a teaghlach stad air a’ chùis agus san òran cluinnidh sinn mu cho brònach sa tha an sìthiche bochd.
There are many variations of the story relating to this song but one says that it is a fairy singing in the song, telling of how he fell in love with a girl while he was cutting bracken. Their love was not to last as her family put a stop to the relationship. In the song the fairy mourns their lost love.
Ró and I sing the first two verses here and are delighted to be joined by the talented Lithuanian singer Viltė Ambrazaitytė.

Sin sibh...
A good few years back I translated this much loved Irish Gaelic song into Scottish Gaelic. Órla and I sing just a few verses here. The full version is on my album An t-Allt. 💿
Tha sinn an dòchas gun còrd e ruibh.

A woman's love song in Scottish Gaelic. The woman in this song asks of her lover, who is away serving in the army, if he is ever going to return to her. She tells of how he is so far away from her. I just sing here the chorus and verse one.
