Hi there!

This was my first time playing the accordion with my grandad.

He’s the main reason I started taking lessons and one of the main reasons I’m still playing today.

“Remember boy, if you screw up, don’t forget to shout, swear and start all over again.” 😆

How learning an instrument can fine-tune your health 30/09/2020

Hi there!

This one is a reminder that learning an instrument like the accordion isn't just for kids; it's for grown-ups, too!

Being a beginner at something when we're adults keeps us grounded and it's great for our health! It keeps us sharp and learning an instrument makes us appreciate music even more. This is because we understand the time, talent and tenacity it takes to be at the same level as our favourite musicians. The fun fact about it is though - you can learn just for fun!

Here's a fascinating artcile that goes more into depth about some of the benefits of adults learning an instrument:

Hi there,

Here are the eight great reasons of having one-on-one lessons with a tutor:

1. Low stress. You won't be put on the spot in front of your peers; it's just you.

2. Easier to focus. There are fewer distractions in one-on-one lessons mostly because there's not the option of talking to other students.

3. It's personal. One-on-one lessons are more personal because the tutor has more time to connect with you instead of having to divide their attention to others in the class.

4. The student doesn't need to play catch up and ask other students for notes etc. All they have to do is reschedule at least an hour (preferably) before the lesson they previously scheduled starts.

5. Self-empowering. Since it's just you practising and attending the lessons, it feels more rewarding because you're improving yourself without the help from other students.

6. Improves discipline. Having a scheduled time to do anything productive is good for your discipline. Especially learning an instrument like the accordion because it's a skill that's good for
your mental health.

7. Improves respect for ourselves and others. Knowing that we are improving ourselves on an agreed time during the week improves our self-respect. It also improves our respect for others since we have agreed to a selected time with the tutor and we arrive on time in respect of her/his time.

8. Improves active listening skills. Following specific instructions is a skill we all need. Learning from a music tutor to learn to play an instrument heightens our awareness and listening skills. This is mostly due to the detailed notes that music tutors give to the students. Every time a new tune is learnt - the students become better at listening.

Let us know if you have any more. We'd love to hear them! 🎹🎶🎼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hi there,

How to keep your accordion in good condition:

1. Keep it in place not too dry or damp and at room temperature.
2. Play it often. Accordions are meant to be played - use it or lose it. You need to make sure the reeds and the bellows are working and playing the accordion is the best way to make sure everything works.
3. The bellows have folds and the folds have hinges. Clean the hinges frequently to make sure the bellows expand fluently. To clean the hinges lightly spray the hinges.
4. Dust the accordion once every two weeks.
5. Buy a good case. Some prefer backpacks to a suitcase but it doesn't matter; as long as it protects the accordion - especially the keys, it will do.
6. Pick up and put down the accordion properly. The straps should be used when picking up or putting down the accordion. It's highly recommended not to pick up or put down the accordion holding the keys because that can damage them.
7. Rest the accordion on the bass side and rest it against something sturdy. This is to make sure it doesn't get kicked over or fall on its side.

Take care.

Cheers!

Hi there!

You probably already know this, but busking is very common in many different countries throughout the world and there are many different forms of it as well. Performing music is a great form of busking; especially with the accordion.

Here are some reasons/benefits to give busking a go:

1. Builds confidence. Playing the accordion in front of strangers will give you confidence. It’s pretty nerve-wracking, some accordionists that have put thousands of hours of practise still find it a little scary to begin with but once you’re a few notes in: you will feel great and it can be a very empowering experience.

2. Creates a good vibe. Sometimes streets can lack vibrancy but when a good accordion player starts playing it creates a buzz in the atmosphere and people start walking with a spring in their step.

3. Financial gain. Another exciting thing about busking is that you never how much money you will get, maybe £2 or £200 you never know. No matter how much or little you get, you will most likely feel better after the session. You’ve probably made someone smile,
dance, hum a tune to themselves and/or have an all-round better day.

4. Tourists love you! Buskers really do add to tourists experiences because local buskers are a big part of culture. Grab a photo with a tourist, take song requests, ask them if they need some help with directions; this make the experience better for them but also for you, too.

Enjoy and let us know how you get on. 🎵🎶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
