It's currently National Volunteers' Week - an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the immense contributions volunteers make in communities across the UK.

As a UHI student or graduate, having a CV which reflects your volunteering activity will often set you apart from other applicants. One recent UHI graduate offers this great advice 'volunteering during your studies, no matter how small, will have a massive impact both for your confidence, and for gaining valuable transferable skills for your future employment'.

There are lots of ways to participate, build your confidence and give something back to your local community

As part of , weโ€™ll be joining in with โ€˜Wear it Green Dayโ€™ on Thursday 14 May. Weโ€™re encouraging everyone to wear something green. Whether itโ€™s a t-shirt, hoodie, accessory, or even a small touch to show support and help spark conversations about mental health. Together, letโ€™s turn our campuses and learning centres across the UHI partnership green for good mental health ๐Ÿ’š

This week is a reminder that looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Life can be busy and sometimes overwhelming, so here are some simple ways to support your wellbeing:

๐Ÿ’š Stay connected โ€“ Reach out to friends, classmates, or family. A quick chat can make a big difference.
๐Ÿ’š Take breaks โ€“ Give yourself time to rest and recharge, especially during busy study periods.
๐Ÿ’š Get moving โ€“ Even a short walk or light exercise can boost your mood and energy.
๐Ÿ’š Talk about how you feel โ€“ Whether itโ€™s a friend, lecturer, or support service, you donโ€™t have to keep things to yourself.
๐Ÿ’š Set realistic goals โ€“ Break tasks into manageable steps and celebrate small wins.
๐Ÿ’š Look after your basics โ€“ Try to get enough sleep, eat regularly, and stay hydrated.

Remember, itโ€™s okay to ask for help and to take time for yourself. Letโ€™s work together to create a supportive and understanding campus community.
