A tutor who’s kind and approachable AND makes tricky topics feel manageable? That’s the verdict on our Tutor, Andy Flanagan, after just one live lesson! 😊

On 29 September, our AAT Level 4 Premier Prime group had their first live lesson with Andy. Our learner said it was really beneficial to have him break topics down into smaller chunks and simplify all the terminology behind them.

We know studying can feel daunting, especially when you hit a topic that just won’t click. Ali and Beth made £20,000 profit. Can you share it out correctly? 📊

Our AAT tutor Richard Sharp works through a full partnership appropriation in this month’s PQ Magazine, in three steps:

1️⃣ Add interest on drawings first
2️⃣ Deduct interest on capital and salary, then share the residual profit
3️⃣ Check the partners’ final totals add back to the net profit you started with

If they don’t match, you know something’s gone wrong before you move on.

On Friday we attended The Business Hive Great Big Small Awards. As accountancy trainers, we’ve run the numbers:

💃 Dance floor appearances: currently under review

We’ve checked the figures twice and the trophy is being recorded as a fixed asset. It will not be depreciated. Ever. 🏆

Congratulations to all the winners, and a huge well done to Angela for making the final of the Inspiring Employee Award. She’s still inspiring. We’ll just need to remind her more often now.

One misunderstanding derails more partnership questions than any other at AAT Level 3. 📊

It's an easy trap. You see interest on capital, you recognise it as something owed to the partners, and you add it to the net profit. Makes sense, right?

It doesn't. The appropriation account only ever divides the profit that's already there. It never creates it.

📄 This role is perfect for someone who loves seeing people succeed. You'll support learners through their whole journey, from their very first enquiry right through to their final assessment. That means coaching, progress reviews, marking and feedback, and working closely with employers so every apprentice gets the support they need.

✅ We're flexible on how you work. The role can be office based in Immingham, hybrid or remote, and we'll shape that around the right person. Salary will reflect experience too.

There's a moment in every AAT assessment where you stop, look at the screen and think "right, do I actually know this or not?"

Alan found out this week. He passed his AAT Level 3 Financial Accounting: Preparing Financial Statements assessment 🎉
