We are a Personal Training studio based in Ilkley offering Small Group, 1:1 & 2:1 Personal Training.

We provide onsite and online training for all services, depending on your needs. Our memberships include supervised training, heart rate monitoring and nutrition advice. We conduct regular fitness assessments for accountability and to help you succeed.

Here’s our Best in Block member Sue. She deservedly won the award this block for hard work and consistency 💪🏻👏🏼 Here’s what she had to say regarding her experience with Dillons.

Why did you join Dillons?

I’ve had memberships of various gyms as a grown up. I’ve never been into “standard” gym stuff, such as treadmills etc, and haven’t a clue how to use free weights, but I’ve always liked the classes. When I was considering joining Dillon’s, it was a choice between that or the Tennis Club. I knew exactly what I’d be getting at the tennis club with the various spin, body combat and body pump classes. Ultimately the decision landed on the fact that I just fancied trying something different. I remember Richard showing me the studio with the words, “and this is where the magic happens” - and I still had absolutely no idea what to expect!

What were the areas you needed help with?

My motivation for joining was simply to get fitter, build some strength, and if I happened to lose some weight along the way then that was a bonus.

What do you like about coming to Dillons?

It turns out that while I’ve easily achieved those initial goals, I’ve found that Dillon’s offers so much more than just a means of enabling me to be a greedy cow! As a home worker, it helps to provide a structure to my week. I’ve made some great friends and some business contacts along the way. Everyone is always so wonderfully friendly. It’s a fantastic community and one I feel privileged to be part of.

What results have you seen?

I remember trying to do a starfish crunch in the first couple of weeks of joining and suspect I looked more like an upturned beetle trying to right itself! And now, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in.

How have these results benefited you outside of the gym?

During Covid, Richard offered one on one sessions and for a little while he and I went out running together. That gave me the confidence to start running as a regular thing and is something I still like to do once or twice a week.

We are pleased to announce our January Best in Block winner! Well done Charlotte. Regular classes at Dillon’s since summer 25 have seen Charlotte lose over 10kg, as well as increased muscle tone and fitness!

Why did you join Dillons?

I joined Dillons last year as I’d been struggling to build any consistency with my exercise routine, and I’d been overweight since the Covid lockdowns. I knew I needed to try something different as I’d been ignoring the gym I’d been a member of for years too. I’d been interested in personal training, and quite a few people I knew recommended I try Dillons!

What were the areas you needed help with?

Alongside losing weight, I really wanted to improve my fitness, and my strength. Doing the 1:1s initially helped build up my confidence, and the classes now push me to develop my fitness even further.

What do you like about coming to Dillons?

I love that the classes are small, and you really get to know the team - Michael, Richard and Jon are all super supportive and make sure you’re supported and challenged at the same time! All the other members are encouraging too, which makes even the more difficult classes feel enjoyable. I love that the exercise is challenging too - I always leave sessions feeling like I’ve put a shift in.

What results have you seen?

I’ve lost over 10kg since joining and kept it off without having to make any unsustainable changes to my diet. I’ve also gained a lot more muscle and tone - my friends and family are getting very bored of me insisting they feel my arms every time I see them!

How have these results benefited you outside of the gym?

I feel a lot more confident now - I’m at the lowest weight I’ve been since I was in my 20s, and I feel so much fitter and stronger. Keeping the consistent routine has really helped my overall health and discipline too.

We are delighted to share with you our Best in Block winner......TOM BRIDGES!

Tom has been a member of Dillons for just under a year now. He’s on a Small Group Personal Training membership where he does 2 x classes per week.

He’d gradually been putting weight on over the last 20 years whilst focussing on a busy job and raising a family. He was starting to feel stress at work, had low energy and was suffering from some neck and shoulder pain. With the last child off to university it was time to do something about it.

Tom began with some 1:1 Personal Training sessions, to improve his conditioning and to help with safe technique. After a couple of months, he was ready to hit the ground running and move into the groups. He mastered the exercise habits first before embarking on some changes to his diet. Always a good move. If you try to change too much at once it can be overwhelming.

Fast forward 10 months and Tom has managed to lose almost 10kg whilst increasing his percentage of muscle and reducing body fat. He’s consistently getting in his 2 sessions a week as well as playing golf in his spare time.

Great work Tom and keep it up!

At Dillons we run 26 classes a week. We have a booking app so you can move sessions if things crop up. You have the structure of set classes booked for you each week but the flexibility to change when life gets in the way!

Here's a few questions we ran past Tom.

Why did you join Dillons?

I wanted to lose some weight, get fit and do something that would help me de-stress from work. I had been a bit overweight for a long time and could not get into any regular routine of exercise or healthy eating. I have always found regular gyms boring and sensed I wasn’t working out with good technique. My wife Jane had been a Dillons member for a year or so and loved it.

What were the areas you needed help with?

The main thing was the challenge to commit and stick to a consistent routine of working out. I also needed some advice and accountability around my diet. And I wanted to work on my core stability and mobility to help with neck pain.

What do you like about coming to Dillons?

It is a couple of hours each week where I am investing in me. It is a great start or end to the working day. I enjoy the camaraderie. And there is a real sense of accomplishment as I get fitter!

What results have you seen?

I have lost around 10kg taking me into the healthy BMI range for the first time in 20 years. I am stronger, more mobile, and have more stamina. My neck pain has gone. There is a sense of satisfaction in going to buy new shirts and trousers in smaller sizes!

How have these results benefited you outside of the gym?

I feel more confident and less stressed. I am eating a much better diet - knowing how hard you’ve worked in a session, combined with the reckoning at the end of block measurements certainly acts as an incentive. I have enjoyed meeting new people. I would like to say my golf game has improved but….

Here’s our May Best in Block winner; Andrew Sheldon! Andrew has shown some great gains this year by incorporating a sensible eating plan into his diet, reducing his carbs, snacks and midweek drinking as well as upping the protein.

This combined with regular training at Dillons has seen Andrew lose 10% bodyweight over 4 months as well as increasing muscle and reducing fat percentage. Here’s some words he had for us which might help you!

Why did you join Dillons?

I’d developed a condition called early onset ‘exercise avoidance’. My other half offered a diagnosis and suggested the best way to get rid of it was to join her and do three 6.30am sessions a week at Dillons. I can’t say ‘I’ve never looked back’, as I often do that longingly as I leave the house come rain or shine, but it’s proved to be a terrific way to get a workout done before the day really starts.

What were the areas you needed help with?

I’ve always done some training, but wanted to do more strength and flexibility work, rather than relying solely on trying to outrun the food and wine! The sessions give a good combination of cardio and weights to stay in reasonable shape.

What do you like about coming to Dillons?

They’re a good team - Jon and Richard provide plenty of carrot, and there’s always Michael to provide a bit of stick! They take an interest in your development as a client and stay the course when you have knocks and injuries.

What results have you seen?

In general, since starting it’s delivered on the strength and flexibility element - and more recently, one to one sessions with Jon have really helped with reversing my traditional Christmas/New Year weight gain (combined with a cruel ‘Plan B’ diet that removed biscuits, baking, beer, bacon, batter etc, but tragically not broccoli from the menu).

How have these results benefited you outside of the gym?

Putting to one side the vanity I just want to stay in a good place to deal with the everyday demands of life - staying as strong and fit as reasonably possible for the long term. Being a member at Dillons has definitely given me the motivation and the means to do that.

Why did you join Dillons?

I initially joined to become fitter. I easily got out of breath. I was working long hours & exercise wasn't part of my routine at all.

What were the areas you needed help with?

I wanted to improve my level of fitness & perhaps lose some weight along the way.

What do you like about coming to Dillons?

It's fun! I like the small classes & the structure of a changing exercise program. Having assigned sessions has helped me to attend more regularly. You can talk to the trainers about your progress & they teach you how to do the exercises properly & give individual support. The team at Dillons pay careful attention in providing social events too!

What results have you seen?

I have increased fitness levels, stamina & resilience. I also have increased flexibility & greater confidence. I have also managed to lose some weight!

How have these results benefited you outside of the gym?

I have greater confidence, more energy & better health. I feel younger now than when I joined 10 years ago!!
