The Lantern Community Pre-School

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the permanent closure of The Lantern Community Preschool at the end of this term. This has not been an easy choice and we have looked at various options, but there are many reasons that have prompted this move. Funding, Early Years recruitment, an ever increasing staff workload and the difficulties faced by small charities nationwide post-covid and in a cost-of-living-crisis have all contributed to this upsetting decision.

We would like to say a huge thank you for their hard work to all of the staff past and present, Committee members, Ilfracombe Town Council and our many supporters and to the parents that have chosen us for their children over the years.

The Lantern Preschool has cared for countless children over nearly 50 years and many people in Ilfracombe will have a personal connection with preschool. So it’s feels right that we also take this as an opportunity to wish long-standing Manager Cris Shelley all the best for her retirement.

Infant school letters have been sent out today, with your child's class details on for September. If you would like to share your child's name and class details on this post, please do so.
Staff at preschool do not decide on class groupings.

Hello everyone, could you all check your child's hair before returning and treat if necessary, please,we have been informed of a case of nits. Also a reminder to tie long hair back and ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the hot weather, no exposed shoulders etc.Thank you.

Thanks to all who are donating to our spare and share scheme,and please remember to anyone that needs to take from it there is no judgement. We all need help sometimes.
We have been celebrating Chinese New year, and also lots of focus on building /construction sets.The cold weather caused great delight by producing ice in our garden.

Devon Ghost Tours are pleased to announce the 1st of two local charities we will support in 2023. We will be doing a number of charity events during the year and all proceeds will be divided between our chosen charities please do help us in supporting them.

Lantern community pre-school is a small, long-established setting based at the back of The Lantern Center in Ilfracombe high street. They offer high quality childcare for families with children 2-5 years and have a small staff of 3.

They have an outdoor area that always needs some form of maintenance would like to create a sensory room in the upstairs of there playhouse and new indoor resources are always needed. Something we are happy to assist with
