On Thursday 3rd March, Clore Tikva celebrated World Book Day. They took part in a book swap, drank hot chocolate and listened to lots of different stories. Everyone came into school wearing their pyjamas!
Mrs Saville read The Freedom Bird in assembly to all children and they then produced some wonderful work based on the story. We have examples of poetry, story maps, bookmarks and art work linked with this wonderful tale. We finished the day with a very successful book fair where children had the opportunity to purchase lots of different books. We would like to thank all of the parents that volunteered to come in and read a story to children in different languages.
World Book Day!!!

Year 1 children listened to the story of the Freedom Bird and created their own birds using oil pastels, collage or colouring. They also created five different parts of the story, working in groups.
Just over a year ago, we asked the children of Clore Tikva to donate any unwanted books to our Books2Africa fundraising scheme. So many families generously gave some wonderful books to the cause. We would like to thank you all for the 447 books that were donated.

396 of these books so far, have been distributed to children who may not be able to afford books themselves.

Here are some pictures of the children that have benefitted from your generosity!

Thank you all again for donating.
Is the Earth Spherical or flat? ๐ŸŒ
For homework, the Year 5 children were asked to make a model of Earth; this could be flat or spherical. They then had to write a letter to a flat Earth theorist persuading them that the Earth is spherical.
Following this, we had a class debate where we discussed, questioned and used evidence to make our own decisions on whether the Earth is flat or spherical.
Year 4 have been studying rivers in their current topic called โ€˜Flowโ€™. The children made boats using paper and wrote interesting facts about rivers on them. They were then asked to research a specific river.

Here are some examples of their fantastic work.
Wes Streeting visited us at Clore Tikva School.

Thank you Wes Streeting for coming to visit the school and talking with the children at their Kabbalat Shabbat assembly.
All the children from Year 1-6 wrote individual Chanukah cards as part of Jewish Care's Cards of Care. Here is a sample from the many batches that were written, all of which were collected today and will be handed out to residents of Jewish Care homes this Chanukah. Wishing you all Chag Sameach.
Mitzvah Day 2021

Finally a huge thank you for those who have donated toys for the Camp Simcha Toy Drive. These will all be collected next week so there is still time to donate. Shabbat Shalom
All pupils and staff at Clore Tikva observed a two-minute silence to remember and honour those who fought and died for our country. This display represents our responsibility and how we all have a responsibility to promote peace and kindness within our community and within our world. ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ

Key Stage 2 staff and children came together today to remember the six million Jews that were murdered in the Holocaust. Through a family in our Clore Tikva community, we learnt about how important music is when remembering.

Mrs Saville told the children about two orphans who came to a synagogue in Elshad, Lithuania, and were asked to sing the melody of the Lord of the World (Adon Olam). These two children later died in the holocaust. One of the worshippers, Moshe Saville (one of our pupil's great grandfathers) taught the music to his children. These children continue to teach their grandchildren.

Listen to the song, make others listen, sing it and share the post in memory of those orphans and the millions of innocent people who perished in the holocaust.

The whole school, have had the most wonderful day celebrating the festival of Purim. We welcomed Rabbi Lev into our Key Stage 2 assembly who read the Megillah. Key Stage 1 had their very own fashion parade where we saw a huge variety of wonderful costumes including bananas, wizards, superheroes and even John Lennon! The children took part in games, sang songs and made mishloach manot to share with eachother. Some children also got to make their very own hamantaschen with Louise Dorling, our Chair of Governors. A big thank you to Delicacy who kindly donated hamantaschen to all of the children and staff!

A.I.M High writing workshop with Seth Burkett

Children from Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to go to Glade Primary school for a biography-writing workshop with Seth Burkett, an English writer and futsal player and former professional footballer.

Our children were introduced to the different types of biography. Together, the group came up with interesting points that a biography should cover. After discussing some examples, tools to quickly draw readers' attention and add suspense were shared. Following this, the children started to write some amazing autobiographies about their own lives.

Next up, children worked in pairs to ghost write the first chapter of each other's autobiographies. They interviewed each other, coming up with interesting questions to ensure interesting answers. Writers were encouraged to listen carefully to the way their partner spoke, noticing any slang or favourite words they heard so that they can expertly catch their subject's voice.

The final part of the workshop asked the children to come up with a biography of Usain Bolt. They watched a clip from when Usain Bolt won the 100m London 2012 Olympics and had to describe that special moment in their biographies.

The children set such a wonderful example and represented Clore Tikva in such a positive way. In fact, the other schools that attended were blown away by our enthusiasm, English skills and knowledge!

Mitzvah Day 2022

A group of Key Stage 2 children accompanied Mrs Bendon to present our Mitzvah Tree laden with leaves of messages from our pupils to the members of RJCC at Woodford Forest Shul. They in turn presented us with their tree. This intergenerational project will involve both us here in school and at the centre reading a leaf a week, bringing motivational and heart-warming messages from our children to the elderly members of RJCC and vice versa.

Year 5 & 6 visit the Allotments!

As part of our Sow, Grow and Farm topic, Years 5 and 6 had the opportunity to visit our local allotment. A thoroughly structured tour by expert volunteers ensured that staff and children experienced a hugely educational and enjoyable time! Each group of pupils followed a map around the plot, where they visited a number of different sections.

Pupils were surprised at the large variety of crops being grown and saplings were distributed to staff so that we could continue growing them at school.

In addition, the experts were able to inform pupils about bio-diversity, soil structure and the obstacles which can be faced when growing crops in this area.

An inspirational visit was had by all!
