This week has been a pretty special one… my first ever week being fully self-employed 🥹

Leaving teaching was such a huge decision for me, and definitely not one I made lightly, but sitting here at the end of this week, I just feel incredibly lucky that I took the leap. I get to spend my days doing what I absolutely love. Teaching children in a way that I truly believe in. Helping them make progress, build their confidence and, find a love of learning again. That really is everything I wanted Dotty Lotty’s to be about.

I feel so privileged to work with the most incredible children and families, and I’m genuinely so proud of what I’ve managed to build so far.

Last year was tough at times, trying to grow my little business alongside still teaching. There were lots of late nights, lots of learning curves, plenty of moments wondering whether I was doing the right thing… and definitely some comfort eating along the way.

I’ve learnt so much already! About running a business, about myself, and about taking a chance on something you really believe in. I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. There’s still so much I want to do and so much I’m still learning, but for now I’m just feeling really proud, really grateful and really excited for what’s ahead.

🌈💪First week of groups for the new academic year… which means the resource piles are officially back!

I’ve been busy getting everything ready for this week’s sessions and I’ve only got two groups left to resource now.

There are SO many resources that I use across my tutoring sessions, but these are a few of the staples making an appearance this week.

😊 Word of the Day to get us talking, thinking and building vocabulary in Literacy Masters
😊Place value counters to make the value of each digit really visible
😊 magnetic phoneme frames for segmenting and building words
😊 word flashcards – an absolute phonics staple and something I use every single week!
😊 letter stamps for building words and focusing carefully on letter formation
😊 magnetic letters for lots of hands-on blending and segmenting

I love finding new resources for my children to use.

Small-group tuition for children aged 4–9, designed to strengthen skills, fill those little gaps and, most importantly, help children feel confident and capable in their learning.

My sessions are practical, engaging and carefully planned, with lots of opportunities to explore, practise, problem-solve and really understand what we’re learning.

Jumping on the bandwagon with my kinda chic slides and I actually really enjoyed making these!

I’m so proud of the direction my life has taken, proud of the little tutoring business I’m building, and even prouder that my girls get to watch me back myself, work hard and create something I really believe in.

My little Dotty Lotty’s has already come such a long way, and I honestly can’t wait to see where it goes over the next few years.

🤔When people hear "group tutoring", they often imagine children sitting quietly completing worksheets or working on a computer together. The reality at Dotty Lotty's couldn't be more different.🤔

My sessions are full of conversation, encouragement, practical activities, games and those wonderful little moments. It's amazing how much confidence grows when children learn alongside others who are cheering them on, celebrating their successes and working through challenges together.

For me, group tutoring has never just been about improving maths or literacy. It's about helping children become confident, resilient learners who enjoy having a go.
