Refugee Action York is our chosen charity of the year, voted on by students.
RAY works with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from within and around the City of York, providing a safe meeting point where people can seek information and support, learn new skills and languages and form lasting friendships.

We will begin fundraising with our first Charity Day on Friday 23rd October, where
students can enjoy Staff Sumo in the sports hall, Open Mic in the drama studio and Film
Club in the main hall.

This is also a non-uniform day. You can make a donation using WisePay, (look in Fundraising), or send cash on the day.

Thank you in advance for your support in raising funds to support this fantastic charity.

Our Year 8 students recently took part in Hooked, an engaging live theatre performance exploring the risks associated with smoking and va**ng.

Using a combination of drama, real-life stories and interactive learning, the production encouraged students to think critically about the choices they make and the factors that can influence them.

The performance helped students develop their understanding of the impact that smoking and va**ng can have on health, while empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to make informed, healthy decisions in the future.

It was a powerful and memorable experience that supported our commitment to helping students lead healthy, informed and positive lives.

This week, our newly elected Student Parliament representatives met for the first time.

Each tutor group has selected representatives they believe will listen to and champion the views of their peers.

Our fantastic Sixth Form Senior Student Leaders facilitated the discussions, helping students share their reflections on what has gone well so far this year and identify areas where they would like to see further improvements.

It was great to see such thoughtful contributions and enthusiastic engagement as students began shaping the agenda for the year ahead.

Student voice plays a vital role in our school community, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of their ideas.

Our Year 11 GCSE Religious Studies students recently visited the Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, where they experienced a refreshing break from their standard academic routines.

During the excursion, the pupils explored Buddhist philosophy by engaging in mindfulness exercises. Resident nun Kelsung Konchog answered thoughtful inquiries regarding spiritual attachment, love, and enlightenment.

Ultimately, the attendees discovered that achieving true happiness requires cultivating a peaceful mind supported by the vital dual elements of wisdom and compassion.

The students were exemplary in every regard.

Last week, we welcomed Be Internet Citizens from YouTube and Parent Zone. Through interactive workshops, students explored how to identify misinformation, respond to divisive content and navigate the challenges posed by AI deepfakes.

Developing media literacy is a vital part of preparing young people for life in the digital world, helping them become confident, critical and responsible online citizens.

💄 Can you help us? 💇‍♀️

At Dress2Impress we’re creating a small hair & beauty training area to help students learn to do their own hair and makeup for Prom, helping families keep costs down.

We’re looking for any unwanted or spare hairdryers, straighteners, curlers, hair grips/pins, clips or makeup brushes. Part-used items are absolutely fine too!

We’d also love to hear from anyone with hair/beauty experience who could offer a demonstration or two. ❤️

📍 Donations can be dropped at the main reception.

Please share — you never know what someone might have tucked away at home! 😊

The Friends of Huntington School would like to invite you to our Family Bingo Night on Thursday 8th October, 6.30pm at school - this will be a fun evening of classic bingo, plus a few twists on the game as bonus extras - all with great prizes up for grabs! All ages are welcome so please do bring the whole family (and friends!) along to take part.

You can buy your tickets on Wisepay under fundraising - it's £6 per person and for this you will receive a set of 6 bingo sheets, but please bring some cash too if you'd like to opt into some other games. A bar and refreshments will also be available, for which we can take cash or card. As always, all money raised goes back into the school to support and benefit our students.

We hope to see you there!
