As well as having themed activities we also set up other activities for the children πŸ”’

This week we’ve been exploring numbers. Making it fun to learn is always a really positive way to get the children to participate without even knowing they’re learning!

Our number pebbles are a wonderful resource. Not only can they be used for playing, they’re a great way to get the children to recognise numbers.

We’ve used them this week in our sand tray. In a guided and supported way, one by one we picked up the numbers and popped them in the pots as we named them. We did this in both the correct and random orders. By the end of the week all the children were participating which to us is a huge success 🌟

Dinosaur fossils πŸ¦–

A creating activity today. Our preschoolers loved making prints with the dinosaurs feet, hands, and spines. πŸ¦•

They rolled out the playdough to create a stamping surface before pressing the dinosaurs into it to make marks. The children then got very creative and used the shaped scissors to cut them out. βœ‚οΈ

A very successful activity that lasted the day without much adaptation. It’s a hit ✨

It’s a dinosaur themed week πŸ¦• πŸ¦–

The children have been very busy exploring textures and colours as well as role play.

Over the day the children observed changes in the mud (gloop) as it hardened. We saw team work, communication, and being imaginative.
They commented about how the dinosaurs had gotten stuck and it was all hands on board to rescue them πŸ›Ÿ

You can create gloop at home easily using cornflour and water. Add in food colouring, paint etc to personalise your own ⭐️🎨

Todays Harvest Tray πŸ₯”πŸ₯•πŸ§…πŸ…πŸŒ½πŸ₯¦

The children have been showing us their amazing chopping skills today! We are so impressed with how many of our preschoolers could successfully cut through the vegetables. The all showed such control, but most importantly they were all so careful when using the knives.

Such an important skill for the children to learn. It teaches them to be careful and responsible, as well as setting them up with the skills for cooking, and eating 🍽️

The children also spent time peeling the onion/leek and smelling each of the vegetables.

We spoke about how we could plant our broad bean seeds and hopefully grow our very own at preschool πŸ«›

Writing ✍🏽

At preschool age writing isn’t about the children writing their names or spelling, it’s all about mark making. The importance of putting pen to paper (or chalk to chalk board in this case).

It’s about getting the children to be creative. Expressing themselves and starting to give meaning to the things they draw.

Here for example one of our preschoolers drew a beautiful zig zag. She was so excited and showed all the staff.

Writing like this allows the children to gain strength in their grip, express themselves and be as imaginative as they like.

These are our children’s (minus one if you can spot it πŸ™Š) outdoor drawings from going around the garden and spotting what things we can draw from our natural world 🌎 πŸ’
