Our preschool children enjoyed a very special PE session as one of our wonderful parents came in to teach them traditional Scottish Ceilidh dancing!

The children had so much fun learning new dance moves, following rhythms and working together as they twirled and danced around the room. To make the experience even more memorable, they also brought along some mini kilts for the children to try on, which led to plenty of smiles, laughter and lots of twirling!

Experiences like these are a fantastic way to introduce children to different cultures and traditions while building confidence, coordination and social skills through movement and play.

Thank you to our lovely parent for sharing such a special part of Scottish culture with us! ❀️

As part of our 'Over the Sea' theme, our toddlers have been getting creative by making their own interpretations of lighthouses. πŸŒŠπŸš’πŸ’‘

The children used their scissor skills to carefully cut out shapes before using glue to bring their lighthouse creations to life. Activities like these are a fantastic way to develop fine motor skills, helping to strengthen the small muscles in children's hands and fingers that are needed for everyday tasks and early writing skills.

Each lighthouse was unique, showcasing the children's creativity and imagination while encouraging concentration, coordination, and independence.

We loved seeing the children's wonderful creations and the pride they took in their work! ❀️✨

We’re so pleased to share that Guide Dogs will be running a brand‑new block of My Time to Play sessions for young children with a vision impairment β€” right here in our region.

These sessions are designed for children aged 0–4 years, or up to 6 years for those with additional needs. Led by specialist Habilitation staff, each week offers a calm, playful space where little ones can build early practical skills, explore key concepts, and grow in confidence through hands‑on, child‑led play.

It’s also a lovely chance for parents and carers to meet others, share experiences, and feel part of a supportive local community.

Today, we are sharing a very special video from a remarkable young lady whose passion for our planet inspired so many. As a Senior Green Ambassador and lead of the 1 Million Trees Uganda campaign, she speaks with such wisdom about conservation, community, and the power of planting hope.

Her message reminds us why nurturing young minds matters so deeply. In early years education, we help lay the foundations for children to grow into thoughtful, compassionate changemakers β€” just like her.πŸŒ±πŸ’š

This week at The Anchor, our children have been celebrating Art Week by exploring a variety of exciting and creative ways to make their own masterpieces.

The children loved turning paint into graffiti art by using spray bottles to create colourful patterns and marks, experimenting with movement and control as they sprayed. We also explored a unique form of process art by swinging bottles of paint over a large dark sheet, creating beautiful splashes, swirls, and patterns as the paint moved through the air.

These activities encouraged creativity, curiosity, and self-expression, while also helping to develop fine and gross motor skills through hands-on exploration. It has been wonderful to see the children's imaginations come to life through art this week!

The Anchor has been full of exciting learning and creativity this week as the children celebrated Bee Week and explored all things bees!

The children enjoyed learning about bees and discovering more about the important role they play, including how they communicate and work together. Hands-on activities helped bring learning to life, with the children making delicious honey sandwiches and exploring different shapes while taking part in bee-themed activities.

Creativity was buzzing throughout the room as the children created their own beehives using bubble wrap to print honeycomb textures and designed their own bees using toilet roll tubes, pipe cleaners and tissue paper. These activities encouraged imagination while supporting fine motor development and creative expression.

A lovely week filled with exploration, creativity and lots of buzzing fun! 🐝🌼

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year’s theme β€” led by the Mental Health Foundation β€” is Action: taking steps, starting conversations, and supporting one another in meaningful ways.

At our nursery, we want to remind our families, children and community that no one has to face things alone. Small moments of care, kindness and connection can make a real difference.

When we’re struggling with our mental health, worries about everyday life β€” like work, relationships and money β€” can become overwhelming. This can lead to us feeling isolated or withdrawn.

When we’re in a dark place, it can feel difficult to connect with others, but often that is when we need connection the most.

It’s natural to want supportive friends, to feel accepted and valued for who you are, and to feel like you belong.

You can have different types of friends. Some friends are great for having a laugh and sharing your favourite hobbies. Others are there when you need to pour your heart out. Both are important.

Things to remember (especially for children and young people):
⭐ It can be hard to go up to someone new, but the more you do it, the easier it may get.
⭐ Other people may also find it hard to make friends β€” your friendliness might mean a lot to them.
⭐ Don’t be hard on yourself if you freeze up. You can always try again another time.
⭐ If someone is friendly to you, try to be friendly back.
⭐ A smile can go a long way.
⭐ Friendships take time to grow.

✨Spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm
✨ Cover up with suitable clothing and hats
✨ Wear at least SPF30 sun cream
✨ Children under the age of 6 months should be kept out of direct sunlight

Now that the weather is getting warmer, please can we remind you to ensure your child arrives with a hat that is clearly labelled and appropriate clothing. Please can children have sun cream applied before coming into nursery. Thank you β˜€οΈπŸ’š

This week at Anchor, the children enjoyed lots of exciting activities and special moments together.

Earlier in the week, we were so excited to see our butterflies emerge from their pupae, ready to spread their wings. The children loved watching this magical transformation before helping to release them into the world. πŸ¦‹βœ¨

As part of Healthy Eating Week, our preschool children made a delicious vegetable soup for the whole nursery to enjoy at tea time. They carefully helped to prepare the vegetables while learning all about healthy food choices and the importance of looking after our bodies. πŸ₯•πŸ₯”πŸ…

A wonderful week of learning, discovery and hands-on experiences for all. πŸ’›
